FORMER NEWSPAPERMAN FITZ SEYZ COLUMNIST MARY SANCHEZ IS OUT AT THE KANSAS CITY STAR!!! DOES IT MATTER???
Sadly, there are far too many Kansas City blogs run by former newspaper dudes who waste their words grumbling about their former employer.
Only one of them stumbled upon a great scheme to get paid by developers for running PR.
Meanwhile, more than half of the content published by Jim Fitzpatrick is dedicated to chronicling what NOBODY read in the newspaper earlier in the week. And, of course, shilling for a few of his favorite political candidates & or causes.
Most of his writing includes often banal but sometimes extremely witty observations about how the print industry should run their fading biz.
But this afternoon he reports the career conclusion of progressive pundit Mary Sanchez.
He notes:
"I’ve heard from two very good sources that Mary Sanchez is out after a career of more than 30 years as a reporter and columnist. From what I understand, this is not a cost-saving layoff but just the result of ongoing, often-inevitable, work-related friction."
Meanwhile, a quick check of Twitter shows that she's still following-up on newspaper reports this afternoon so she's, obviously, not out the door as of this writing.
More importantly . . .
DOES IT MATTER IF MARY SANCHEZ STILL WRITES FOR THE KANSAS CITY STAR IF FEW PEOPLE ARE READING HER COLUMNS AND THEY DON'T IMPACT POLICY???
Writing about politics isn't all about shares & likes or comments but over the past few months there hasn't been much reaction to the columns of Mary Sanchez at all and her productivity has noticeably declined. To be blunt, it's not clear if anybody but partisan hacks, trolls and a few diehard fans care about where she's working . . . To be fair, this is true of nearly ALL NEWSPAPER COLUMNISTS AND/OR LOCAL PUNDITS. Amidst the Internets digital age of social media; newspapers are nothing more than a niche market novelty leftover from a bygone era.
Very much like like the old "tree falling in the forest" question . . . The fate of dead-tree hacks makes for great speculation among info junkies but it's not clear if the public will notice one way or another.
You decide . . .
Maybe she can join with Afentra and start a great new blog! I would read them for free just like TKC!
ReplyDeleteFitzpatrick didn't even spell her name right when he first published his post. I like his writing but he's not much of a reporter, which is why he's still not working at The Star.
DeleteLook around.
DeleteSeriously, just look around you right now.
Do you see anybody reading a newspaper.
If you're in a public place I'll tell you what you do see, every idiot out there glued to their phone. Head down, thumbing and rubbing that this like it's a glass d*ck.
The newspapers and the magazines lost the war and they're playing catch-up online way too late in the game. The phone is your newspaper, best friend and new television set.
Sorry
What happened to her nationally syndicated column? Can she take Kraske with her?
ReplyDeleteIf one of her final acts was joining the rest of the editorial board in making the bonehead endorsement for the 3rd District Congressional primary.race in Kansas, she more than deserves to go away.
ReplyDeleteYou can always count on the Star to pick the most radical and least likely to win candidate.
Sanchez is a terrible "reporter" and even worse columnist.
But it looks like the music is still pausing from time to time at the Star and each time another chair is taken away.
Time for Helling and Kraske to end up on the floor.
outsource the local reporting to high schools.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^ LOL!
ReplyDeleteI thought that's what they were doing already!
Oh, good. I’m sure she will get a job at some other piece of shit newspaper that is just as worthless as the broke ass Star.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY
ReplyDeleteIm sure diaper boy will be so sad
Our prayers have been answered. The Czar has two years left.
ReplyDeleteGood riddance!
ReplyDeleteHappy day are here again!
Maybe she can shuffle out to the Public Communications Office at UMKC with all the other ex-Star hacks that have been sheltered there.
ReplyDeleteSanchez defended the Mohammedan terrorists who murdered the Charlie Hebdo journalists, because they dared make fun of a stupid, false religion. FIRE HER. Pinche vieja!
ReplyDeleteAuto Trader is hiring.
ReplyDeleteShe (Sanchez) will remain a big fish in this little Kansas City pond. Her legacy insured by the swells in local politics and the media who will invite her to ascend to a the level of a local, "Wise Latina". Appearing on local TV shows, cutting ribbons for tax payer funded fuck ups and giving white guilt commencement speeches to raving mad, barking at the moon wanna be SJWs at local commuter colleges in the area, who are mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore.
ReplyDeleteAny tony, #metoo, pussy hat events will feature our newest Progressive Eminence Grise as combat veteran of wars against the White Patriarchy, where she will strip her sleeves and show her scars to adoring crowds of slobbering, bug-eyed, portly, slatternly harridans, claiming imminent fear of rape on a daily basis by evil white business men engaged in "hyper capitalism".
With her firm, Cortez like grasp of economics and experience in the trenches seeing the rhetorical elephant, you will be able to cut the sanctimony with a knife.
Chuck, that was rich! (And, sadly, prophetic!)
DeleteTheir editorial board is so biased that I quit taking the online version over 2 yrs ago. I was at QT this past Sunday and saw the Sunday paper cost is $4.00 and the size of it is what we used to see in one section of a Sunday paper years ago.
ReplyDeleteGood job KC Star, outrageous price with less content and ads with reporters and columnists plus the editorial board & leadership so far left who the hell cares!!
Well, it sounds like we're not sure if she's leaving or not.
ReplyDeleteIf she has her 30 years in, perhaps she's retiring. If she's being forced out by Star management or the head of the editorial board, it speaks to how the liberals cannibalize their own kind. In this case, it would be a white male publisher and a white female editorial board president releasing a Latina.
Maybe Sanchez could write a final column about how white Liberals ultimately turn on minority colleagues. Either that, or it was a subversive plot by the Russians all along!
The streetcar will save Mary Sanchez, defeat the Russians and destroy all of the N. Korea nukes.
ReplyDeleteJust wait and see!
9:58 p.m. took the words I was going to say - UMKC is the new home of all the laid off Star employees. She's the right ethnicity and the right gender. She'll be welcomed with open arms.
ReplyDeleteSo long Dirty Sanchez. Take Stupe Krapske with ya and turn the lights out when you leave.
ReplyDeleteI picture Mary Sanchez getting wasted at some event and having to go hide outside to cry about trump being president. Then proceeding to screech into the air like the other but jobs who had hissy fits and meltdowns on election night. They cried for hillary like they cry for kim Jong un and the former kim Kong ill in the streets of North Korea during parades.
ReplyDeleteHoopz and Mary will start their own east coast midwest blog. They will call it Hairy and Mary.
ReplyDeleteGoodbye Mary Snatchez. CNN is looking for new folk. You'll fit right in.
ReplyDeleteShe is so full of hatred. I wonder if she has ever been properly fucked.
ReplyDeleteI doubt she has. Probably the same thing wrong with Hoopz. It’s why they are so angry and hate everything and everyone.
DeleteIntolerant Mary Sanchez had workplace friction? I can't imagine that.(sarcasm)
ReplyDeleteYou know it's getting bad there when they are laying off the people they keep around for quotas.
ReplyDeleteGood article Tony you make it funny and interesting, thanks for all you do.
ReplyDeleteGood riddance but way too late.
ReplyDeleteI am not in any way a Mary Sanchez fan, but isn't her job to make people think about different sides of an issue? Sometimes that could certainly cause "ongoing work-related friction". That doesn't seem quite fair to kick someone to the curb for doing her job. The (falling) Star is a pathetic publication.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that was her job in theory. In practice, she was just a shill for the grievance group left. The Star has way too many of those already. She was redundant.
ReplyDeleteI will be sad when the STAR finally goes under. After years of loyal use, when it folds, I will have nothing to wipe my ass with! Good riddance to Mary!
ReplyDeleteReading the Star on your phone will cause you to continually walk in circles to the left.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^ Okay @10:36 - You win this thread because that's fudging HILARIOUS.
ReplyDeleteThank you!.
Miss B&B is a freak. No one can think that is attractive, sexy, etc., etc.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't THAT funny, Jum.
ReplyDeleteit's too late to save the ship.
ReplyDeletekraske will have a lot more to do as far as fanning the flames of divisiveness now.
ReplyDeleteWill Kraske now defend criminal illegals?
ReplyDeleteI'm betting that not one of the above commenters has spent a single minute reporting, gathering news or even sweeping the floor of a newsroom. You're all brilliant, lacking the knowledge, experience or insight that a newsperson must have worked diligently to gain. I'm sure its just omniscience handed down to you by Guy-O-Duh that makes you so informed about the news business. Or, you once had a newspaper read to you, and didn't understand it.
