On the 4th of July, hawkish pundits remind us that "freedom isn't free" and we realize the same logic also applies to air travel. Sadly, the campaign for a new Kansas City airport was NOTHING MORE THAN ONE BIG LIE and nobody is being held accountable for the deception.
Remember the election effort started with childish sponsored tweets about long lines and accessibility based on doctored photos. Now in the aftermath of the vote, our blog community has documented the construction delays FIRST and MSM has followed-up complaints from tax fighters.
But the sordid topic of coin remains unchecked.
To wit . . .
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAMPAIGN PROMISE THAT THE NEW AIRPORT WOULDN'T COST KANSAS CITY TAXPAYERS OR RESIDENTS A DIME?!?!
This one was funny because the costs for the new airport had already started to mount before the election was ever commissioned . . .
To wit . . .
Now, already in terms of studies, legal work and behind the scenes administration . . . KC taxpayers have funded the AROUND A MILLION BUCKS worth of new airport subsidy without any hint of reimbursement from the airlines.
Newsies can do their own homework and check the City Clerk's website for "accelerated" ordinance proof of this not-so-fun fact. Even worse, clandestine cash from the City Manager's office powers airport payouts in addition to so many other fees that City Hall doesn't want the public to discover.
Sadly, as the airport construction delays continue . . . The price-tag for Kansas City taxpayers will WORSEN and go unreported by the media who simply report presser hype.
Meanwhile, our best and brightest TKC TIPSTERS reveal that the scumbags who run the airport can sell pr0n at magazine stands but still block TKC on their public wifi.
And so, our blog community continues to hold City Hall accountable for a BILLION DOLLAR LIE perpetrated against Kansas City taxpayers whilst this town hurries to wait for delayed construction on the biggest project in modern local history which is already proving disastrous.
Developing . . .
Didn't our mayor talk about pigs at the trough? Turns out that, in general, he was absolutely right.
ReplyDeleteIt'll cost 2 billion before it's all said and done and KC will have to pay for most of it. And when I say KC, I mean the general fund. Might be one of the biggest ponzi schemes KC has ever seen and the main culprit when KCMO is finally forced to declare bankruptcy.
DeleteReally like the idea that CFRG had about keeping the two terminals and just adding on a new one. The price to demolish those terminals and move out the debris would be astronomical in and of itself.
Deleteit'll be interesting to watch bonds being issued to finance construction.
ReplyDelete“What happened to the campaign promise that the new airport wouldn't cost kansas city taxpayers or residents a dime?!?!”
ReplyDeleteThe KCMO taxpayers were flat out lied to. That is what happened.
The state and or the Feds need to perform a very thorough audit of all city departments and officials. When all findings are made public it will cause Pendergast to turn in his grave.
until the new airport opens, kc's leadership is gleefully torturing travelers by letting the current airport rot and by not updating or maintaining it.
ReplyDelete^^ Planned obsolescence.
ReplyDeleteThe sad part is we will end up paying for it and the damn tickets will still more than triple, this has become the most embarrassing thing to date and sLIE will make a killing off of it
ReplyDeleteTroy moved the $5.5billion for the sewer upgrades (aka smart sewer program) out of the water department and into the city Managers office without a whimper from the council or star.
ReplyDeleteScott’s Taylor, Wagner, Quinton Lucas, Jermaine and Alissa Canaday all looked the other way. These clowns now want to be Mayor. God help us.
Keep two terminals, B and C, or (better because of morning and evening sunlight) A and B. Then build a connector building between them with two levels. All entrances, ticketing. check-in and so forth are on one level, then downstairs to Security.
ReplyDeleteBoth remodeled terminals are past security, and have a curving "people mover" running the entire length (or a series of short straight ones), with shopping, dining, restrooms, etc., and plenty of space for seats while waiting to board, and 25-30 Gates at each terminal.
Exiting is still directly from the terminals to curbside (you can still pick up Grandma at Terminal B, Gates 45-46), parking is still central, but expanded upward, with foot traffic from parking moving underground to the new Central Entrance building.
Mothball the third terminal until such time as traffic demand creates a need for 25=30 more gates, then build a second Entrance Building.
No demilish all 3. Then build a smaller one for $1.5b, and then in 7 years tear down the small one and build 3 bigger ones.
ReplyDeleteOh sorry that IS the plan. My bad.
Amateur night on steroids.
ReplyDeleteBy the time this fiasco has reached the end of its long and winding road, the city will be lucky if the $1.4 billion even pays the consulting, planning, and architectural fees.
Not only should ANYONE who has been party to this so far not run for another public office.
They shouldn't even show their faces around town.
Where's the rah rah New York Times when you really need them?
Tonyskansascity readers told you before the vote. And they knew it before the Star THE T.V.News Channel 9, Editorial RA,RA RA SUPPORT THE NEW AIRPORT, tonyskansascity readers have better in site then the Media. And I have noticed, THE comments on Tony's Blog THE Media picks up on some and they become a news story or investigative reports .Tony's readers are making waves.
ReplyDeleteRemodel KCI!
ReplyDeleteMake everybody come in one end through tsa and the whole terminal is open to food, drink, bathrooms and whatever, this ain’t fucking rocket science Jesus Christ man!
ReplyDeleteplease get lightrsil to the airport. thenk you.
ReplyDeleteSweet. it's real.
ReplyDeleteThe vote was such a joke. We voted to demolish the airport not to build anything new or worthwhile. This is just the beginning of the problems because we were misled by the mayor and the council.
ReplyDelete^^ "Mislead" is a very polite way of saying lying. Thanks.
ReplyDeletePromises made; promises broken; and yet, we the people still keep drinking the Kool-Aid by voting YES for every cockamamie idea. You can't fix stupid, evidently.
ReplyDeleteCan we get the train to run out there?
ReplyDeleteThis is not a prediction, but it's possible that the timing on building a new airport could be inopportune. Any project this big is risky but the lead time on key variables, e.g., raw materials costs, labor costs, and financing costs, makes it all the more so. For example, imagine having to borrow at high rates to pay for more expensive raw materials and higher labor costs. A major remodel would have been substantially less risky.
