Once again the tax weary voting public seems ready to challenge conventional wisdom and push back against the latest tax touted by the civic elite.
According to insiders:
TEAM SLY IS POUTING OVER WEAK NUMBERS FOR KANSAS CITY PRE-K FUNDING!!!
A few signs of encouragement . . .
- Older voters from EVERY demographic are skeptical of the new tax initiative. Preliminary polling numbers suggest urban core support alone won't carry this issue across the finish line.
- Grassroots messaging about the "regressive" nature of this tax has resonated with voters and seems to be evoking fear.
- The tax is endless - A 3/8-cent sales tax on the November ballot generating $30 million annually for pre-K assistance is just the tip of the iceberg for more school cash -- There are MORE KCMO EDUCATION TAXES in the works. Moreover, voters have expressed some confusion about how these funds will be distributed.
One last thing . . .
While public education is a "white hat" issue for politicos . . . The secrecy of the voting booth allows local residents the option of voting with their wallet and not their sense of social justice. Historically, KCMO has been hostile toward education tax increases given the tragic state of local schools and this latest push by Mayor Sly finds local voters inundated with a litany of local levies and obviously growing tired of carrying a growing tax burden whilst luxury living space downtown is afforded one City Hall subsidy after the next.
Developing . . .
Sales tax approaching 16 percent in some parts of downtown. This would be financial suicide for most business and a reason Never to buy anything in KC.

Sly!
totally sounds fair.
ReplyDeleteKC builds cordish a new parking garage worth $20 million and then broke grannies are forced to support the failing schools out of the kindness of their heart.
Thanks Sly!
The City took away tax money from the various school districts by handing huge amounts of cash to developers. Now they want to tax us FOREVER to make up for that theft. Nope......
ReplyDeleteBut what about the children?
ReplyDeleteThis is actually good news for the taxpayers of KCMO.
ReplyDeleteIt's about time that the voting inhabitants of KCMO woke up and realized team Slie is trying to rape them again for more tax mooney to be handed to developers. Slie has probably taken the $5+ million collected Eastside tax dollars and squandered it.He sure is not using it on the Eastside as was noted here a few weeks ago.
We need to see more outrage about the tax and give mentality of the Slie propaganda machine.
Slie will try any way he can think of to get more tax money to hand out to downtown developers. The developers are probably in on creating new ways to tax people.
ReplyDeleteThe ends of Slie's bow tie will probably curl once he hears this info.
We need a state lottery and some casinos, so taxes will never have to go up ever again.
ReplyDeleteHe sure likes to spend. Too bad he doesn't like to retire debt or deal with unfunded pension obligations.
ReplyDeleteWeak support because people know Sly is a thief. Besides, most kids go to Kansas City Schools for 12 years and graduate illiterate. What difference is starting earlier going to make?
ReplyDeleteSlie wants our tax cut crumbs. That is all.
ReplyDeleteIf lyin sly is behind it, vote NO!
ReplyDeleteI would support Sly if he would resign. Anything other than that, I will assume he is lying and stealing and I offer no support.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn’t have to pay any taxes so we all should go completely broke so he can say look at my legacy, I’m the bestus mayor EVAR!
ReplyDeleteTricky slick sly won’t get this. Vote no.
ReplyDeleteTIF it.

7:11 You are amazing.
ReplyDeleteSly has not had a strong record with education. I'm sure he's perfect to lobby for private education in his next career.
ReplyDeleteThe only strong record sLIE has is giving our hard earned money to his friends, oh, and screwing the citizens over.
ReplyDeleteWe’re supposed to work hard all our lives and have nice things but sLIE managed to take as much money as he could and robbed us commoners of any chance of having that, thanks you worthless piece of shit.
More than anything, this hurts the urban core. More sales taxes just tightens a noose around their neck and makes the cost of living rise even higher.
ReplyDeleteI will vote for it, I support our students and our schools!
ReplyDeleteThe taxes are too damn high!!
ReplyDelete@ 6:08 if you think Taxes are too high, how high do you think Sly was when he dreamed this shit up?
ReplyDeleteImport hundreds of Indian teen agers to regain KCMO school accreditation.
ReplyDeleteNever again will I vote for ANY tax increase in either Kansas City or Clay County. Take your Jazz District and shove it. You can't pick up my trash, I can't support your worthless programs.
ReplyDeleteIbought a drink at QT at 31st and SW Blvd this weekend. 1.99 drink plus .20 in tax. this is nuts.
