Tonight we'd like to share an old school Kansas City front page with our fellow stargazers upon an important anniversary for the world.
49 years ago today Kansas City was abuzz with talk of the moon landing. While there's hope of a "space force" comeback, the nation seems too wrapped up in divisive culture war politics to think about any real advancement for humankind.
Still, for the late night and early morning hours the topic of a history voyage into the heavens is worth a moment of contemplation:
NatGeo: See How Apollo-Era Scientists Thought We'd Live On The Moon
WaPo: Why do people believe the moon landing hoax or other conspiracy theories?
Chron: Astronauts explain why nobody has visited the moon in more than 45 years — and the reasons are depressing
Futurism: 3 Reasons Why We Might Return to The Moon
The Hill: How the flight of Apollo 11 won the Cold War
And all this inspires tonight's playlist:
Tonight we invite any of our fellow insomniacs to share their history of the moon landing from a Kansas City perspective . . .
As always, thanks for reading and have a safe and fun Saturday night.
We talk about housing and priorities in Kansas City so it should apply to the national level as well. How many tax dollars are wasted in rocket fuel? One of the articles you linked mentions that getting back to the moon ins't a priority and there's good reason for that, there's too many problems down here.
ReplyDeleteTypical small minded thinking, when you think about the benefits in technology, infrastructure & jobs of the space program, it's probably one of the biggest advances this nation has ever witnessed. Give President Trump credit on one thing. He dreams big.
DeleteSpace force would be pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteAlso, nice songlist this week TKC.
12:26 hits it on the head. Our problems down here, all centered around unemployable, entitled, violent blacks, have, with the help of the power of changing demographics, forced all of our money, into programs that support indolent, sub-human filth.
ReplyDeleteThose who "vote for a living" (They are coming, more and more, by the millions because they have "rights".), have voted for YOUR money to be euchered out of YOUR wallet, into the EBT/SNAP accounts that take precedence over space exploration and even YOUR family's health and well being.
Check your "White Privilege" and keep your mouth shut you racist.
^^Idiot
ReplyDeleteLiar ^^^^^
ReplyDeleteColored sub human filth ruin everything
ReplyDelete^^^^ So please tell your mom to do all her partying in her backyard!
ReplyDelete^^^ I hear your mom's backside is where the party is.
ReplyDeleteWe need to go to the moon to build a street so that we can add a streetcar. That would attract lots of tourists so the moon would be a happnin' place and not the totally boring place it is now.
ReplyDelete^^^ Now that’s funny right there!
ReplyDeleteIN 1959, THE SOVIET UNION FIRST LANDED A CRAFT ON THE MOON.
ReplyDeleteIN 1969, THE U.S. LANDED ASTRONAUTS WHO WALKED ON THE MOON'S SURFACE.
FROM 1969-1972, THE U.S. HAD 12 ASTRONAUTS WHO WALKED ON THE MOON'S SURFACE. ONLY 4 OF THE 12 ARE ALIVE TODAY.
NO ONE'S BEEN BACK SINCE. IS THAT A NORMAL PROGRESSION?
Why do you believe that Americans walked on the moon?
Because the government and news media told you so, and you had no reason at the time not to believe them?
Have they ever lied to you?
Did Americans build their first assembly-line vehicle and then stop, never building another?
Did Americans build their first skyscraper and then stop, never building another?
Did Americans build their first super-computer and then stop, never building another?
When you first learned to read, did you then stop, having mastered it? OK, maybe you're not a good example! haha! Hey look! The Kardashians did something crazy.

July 20, 1969.
ReplyDeleteThe most important day in human history to date.
Let's set a goal for Mars now!
1105, that is thought-provoking. But I believe the story as presented.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that many humans can keep such a secret.
