KC teen charged with murder in deadly shooting of 15-year-old to be tried as an adult
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A teen already facing murder charges in connection with the deadly shooting of a 15-year-old will stand trial as an adult. Andrew Rodriquez, 17, faces one count of second-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action, one count of first-degree assault and one count of first-degree robbery in the death of 15-year-old Jesus Reyes.

According to a Johnson County Parks & Recreation Department spokesman, a 10-year-old boy "accidentally discharged a firearm he had brought in his backpack" at New Century Fieldhouse. Richard Smalley with Johnson County Parks & Rec said the boy was attending a district day camp at New Century Fieldhouse when the firearm discharged around 11 a.m.

The owner of an Olathe barbeque restaurant has denied using a customer's credit card for a spending spree. Matthew Sander, owner of Smokin' Joe's Bar-B-Q, was ordered Monday to stand trial on 24 felony and misdemeanor financial charges. An attorney for Sander entered not guilty pleas for him.

An Independence mother is expanding her nonprofit Corey's Network to profile the stories of unsolved murders on YouTube. "As long as a murderer is out there, they're still able to do it again," Michelle Metje said. Her son, Corey Laykovich, was stabbed walking home from a QuikTrip in 2013, and the crime went unsolved until 2017.

RAYTOWN, Mo. -- A 27-year-old Raytown man is now facing charges after admitting to sexually abusing a young Independence girl approximately 50 times over the past two years. Zachary Sprowls has been charged with five counts of first-degree statutory sodomy, one count of first-degree statutory rape, one count of second-degree child molestation, and two counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy.
