Lumi Neon Museum Supporters Hope To Make Kansas City History Shine On . . .

Here's a quick pitch for a worthwhile local history project in the making . . .

The Lumi Neon Museum

"Save the KC Neon: Much of Kansas City’s history is written in neon. Sadly, many of these iconic beauties have fallen into disrepair and abandoned as businesses close or sell their properties. Others have been sold to private collectors, never to be seen by the public again. The clock is ticking—you can help save vintage Kansas City neon before it’s too late."

  1. A good glassworker can reproduce any of the "lost" signage from photographs, what's the big deal?
And also, this sounds more like a decorative feature for a remodeled (sigh, or "new and wonderful") Airport Terminal than a stand-alone Museum.

  2. ^^^^ Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. You sound cranky. Go get a cup of coffee and come back when you're nicer.

While I agree this would make a better exhibit than a full-fledged museum. You should like the kind of person other people actively avoid @5:35.

  3. ^^^^^ Dummy @6:02.

Actually, @5:35 has it TOTALLY RIGHT!

Some of this history is much better and more efficiently preserved by photos.

  4. Nothing lights up like neon! We need more of it. I'll go and check it out anytime. 5:35 & 6:11...c'mon over and slip your tongue between the uprights of my Jacob's Ladder.....only 16,000 volts @ 1/2 amp, whadya' say? One of the finest neon builders in KC was Finnas Nessessary, he did good work for me.........
