Geoff Jolley Releases Statement Regarding City Council Campaign

Committed to the Residents of the 4th District

(Kansas City, MO) - Today, Geoff Jolley released the following statement:

"As I stood yesterday on the Plaza with three generations of my family in support of the Rally to Protect Families, I wanted to pass along to my two young daughters a lesson that I had been taught, that being engaged in our community and the issues impacting our society is just part of who we ought to strive to be. Having been influenced by and supportive of strong women my entire life, I want my daughters to understand that, with hard work, they can grow up to do anything they choose. I want them to appreciate what Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."

Over a year ago, I spoke with Councilwoman Jolie Justus, whom I respect deeply, have supported in the past, and consider a good friend. We discussed the 4th District seat and I was assured that, under no circumstance, would she seek re-election. Over the subsequent months, I have met with hundreds of residents, organizations, and businesses in the 4th District to see if my experience could be of service to them. Upon deciding that running for the City Council would allow me to best serve my community, I made the very difficult decision to leave an incredibly rewarding role in the Office of Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, where I had worked for over 13 years on behalf of the people of the Fifth Congressional District.

After speaking with dozens of individuals over the weekend, including many mutual friends of ours, I have made the decision to continue to seek the 4th District (In-District) seat. Running for any office is about serving the community, not about having a seat until something else comes along. People in all parts of our community deserve representatives who will work hard on their behalf, not settle for second place. We have many critical issues facing our residents, including crumbling infrastructure, rising water rates, increased taxes, violent crime, and the lack of affordable housing. I believe I can provide steady, sincere leadership on these issues and others as they arise with the goal of a more efficient and effective government. I vow to serve the people of the 4th District with transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility.

In the coming months, I look forward to a civil, engaging discussion, about the direction of our City, and the type of representation people expect and deserve. I respect the decisions that Jolie Justus, Jared Campbell, and Matt Staub have made on how they can best serve our community. I will work tirelessly to share my vision for a municipal government that makes strategic, sensible, and sustainable investments in our people, in our neighborhoods, and in our City - a City for ALL."
