Let's Talk Kansas City Hot Mess Housing!!!

KCMO supports luxury living space with tax breaks whilst urban core neighborhoods struggle to garner city services.

Even worse, the distribution of low-income housing in Kansas City presents a constant struggle betwixt access vs. neighborhood complaints and property value concerns.

Locals can talk all of these topics very soon:

Final Housing Meeting Set For June 18

Deets:

The last meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 18 at the Second Presbyterian Church, 318 East 55th St. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Five other meetings have already been held in south Kansas City, southeast Kansas City, the Historic Northeast, north of the river and on the city’s westside.

“We have received excellent citizen input during our initial meetings,” said John A. Wood, assistant city manager and director of the city’s Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department (NHSD). “A variety of topics, including the need for more affordable housing, have been discussed.”

  1. John woods is an idiot, he needs to be fired immediately, he was fired from Swope builders when he was in charge there, he ran that place into the ground just like he’s doing now with neighborhoods. Try having a conversation with this moron and you’ll see what I’m talking about

  2. It's all smoke and mirrors and bullshit, folks. The problem is Slie and the gang giving away taxpayer money to developers, lawyers and friends. Their solution is to raise our taxes. These "input meetings' are just more of the shit sandwich city leaders keep feeding us.

  4. ^^^ I agree, this is all leading to more developers getting tax money then anything, John woods and his deputy director are sucking over 300 grand a year in payroll and he’s doing his best to get as much as he can and probably getting a job with one of these developers that’ll pay big bucks as a payback.

  10. With the poor quality of the workmanship on the "luxury" apartments, the too high rents, the millenials already focused on suburban living, the crime rate, the constant sales tax increases, parking issues, and all the rest, it won't be very many years before Sly's downtown will become blighted itself.
