Kansas City lawyers sue opioid makers for Kansas, Missouri counties - Kansas City Business Journal

Lawyers from Kansas City-based Wagstaff & Cartmell LLP filed nine lawsuits against opioid manufacturers on behalf of county and municipal governments. The federal lawsuits accuse the manufacturers of being a public nuisance, racketeering, mail and wire fraud, negligent misrepresentation, civil conspiracy and fraud.

  5. Some of us are old enough to have some perspective when assessing fadish claims of pandering politicians & drug war bureaucrats. In the '80s it was the crack epidemic, Len Bias death &c. In the '90s it was meth hysteria, where tough talking police and prosecutors used scare tactics to shore up budgets by acting like every meth lab was the French Connection even if just a hop head cooking in his bath tub. In the '00s ectasy was fashionable to fret about, but it didn't get drug war bureaucrats off like they hoped, so now the new thang is "opioid epidimics." It's a tiresome routine that enriches law enforcement bureaucracies and erodes liberty. -radish
