Developing . . .
As a long time Clay County resident, I will welcome this audit, if it happens. I signed the petition and accompanied volunteers who were collecting signatures after the harassment of those volunteers by relatives of current officeholders and County employees began.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, it is with some regret that I now see a number of former elected officials being thanked for their efforts in organizing this drive. This taints the effort with the implication that this is nothing more than an internal struggle between the "Ins" and "Outs" of the Liberty Mafia.
I sincerely hope that Ms. Galloway's Office spends enough time on this Audit to root out and expose the decades-long abuses of office that have been plaguing Clay County, and I hope that the Media has the forthrightness to name names!
It is time that the "rats nest" infesting Liberty be exposed for what it is. Perhaps this will spur the residents to take action, start recall petitions, run for offices, vote out incumbents and "repeat players" or otherwise end the political quagmire that Clay County Government has been for years.
Or perhaps it is time to split the County along a North-South line, with the majority of residents (in the western portion) gaining at least some voice in how their County is run.
Truman County, anyone?
Not a single elected official was involed in the organization or execution of this effort. Many signed and helped gather signatures. None were involved in our weekly conference calls or attended steering committee meetings. I think you may be interpreting the thank yous incorrectly.

ReplyDeleteTake a closer look at the recent history of political activity in Clay County and you will find that a few developers have been trying to control Clay County for many years. Millions of dollars in TIF and other incentives are at stake. Sheila Ernzen, above as an organizer, held Clay County office while working as full-time auditor for Belton. Commissioner Nolte has received substantial contributions from the developers. This petition is a tactic in the plan to return Clay County to the control of the developers. Many well-intentioned people have signed the petition; but, they have been duped. Commissioner Nolte has been leading the effort to create controversy in order to discredit the other officeholders in the hope that the others can be easily defeated. Nolte is a puppet for the developers and their consultants who want to control Clay County.
The voters have noticed Nolte's effort to wreck Clay County. Nolte has five opponents, and is going to have trouble getting re-elected.
Pam Mason was one of the most incompetent Commissioners on Clay County history

Return Clay County to developers ? Really ?
DeleteFirst off - the audit effort was aimed strictly at transparency and wasteful spending. Trying to imply some deeper plot is a stretch and bullshit maybe horseshit. People who post under a fake name or as anonomous - why are you hiding ? You really think people take your posts seriously - most laugh and probably know who you are anyway.
I agree with Jesse.
ReplyDeleteJesse James, are you trying to say that Ridgeway and Owen aren't in the pockets of developers? Different ones maybe, but the two of them have corrupted the County more than it has been for years with their pettiness and vindictive behavior!
ReplyDeleteALL of the illegal and malfeasant activities performed by County Officeholders have been to the benefit of those two and/or the Business interests they represent.
Frank, crawl back into the bottle and continue to extract money from your brother's corpse.
My hope is that the State Auditor performs a COMPLETE AUDIT, which should result in legal actions and probably Jail Time for several officeholders and County employees.
Let the chips fall where they may!
