A bait and switch crisis confronts the new Kansas City airport as construction delays prove the process of building the new glass & plastic structure has been problematic and mismanaged.
Recently, news that about the expansion of gates and a delay was actually celebrated by the current Mayoral Administration as a sign on increased demand.

Remember that before this delay Council had warned about similar trouble airport contractors endured in Seattle.
Mayor Pro Tem Scott Wagner said it's a major change in tone from a few months ago.
"Sixty days ago we were all talking about time, 'Gotta get it done, first opportunity if we delay, then we're doing something bad,' I'm a little bit surprised at how cavalierly now we're saying, 'Sixty days is okay, we've got to take our time," Wagner said.
Similarly . . . Another TKC INSIDER offers perspective and important questions:
"We haven't seen any designs, no schematics. KC voted on the airport sight unseen and now there really isn't any rush because everybody is getting paid. As for adding gates . . . How far are they going to be from the entrance and/or parking? There were people on Council who warned us that we're building something less convenient and far more expensive. I don't think the voting public understands that the longer the construction goes the more it's going to cost."
Thankfully, there are consequences as stake . . .

The airport was always as scam. I wouldn't say there wasn't any plan, the plan was to fleece KC taxpayers. But that's usually the typical M.O. for Sly & Co.

There was a plan for the airport just not one that works. The real plan was to fleece flyers and taxpayers out of billions so that the mayor and council’s supporters would get rich.
DeleteThey knew the Star’s staff was to lazy to investigate so Pat Klein just fed them numbers like 11 million people use the airport each year. Sly knew that Lynne, Helling and Kraske would never bother to look up the numbers published by the FAA showing only 5.5 mm used it.
You'll have to wait for the punchline. But the lines and the facilities are going to be much worse at the new airport than they ever were at the current KCI. Look at the new airports around the country. The construction is cheap, the gates are inconvenient, the baggage handling is near criminal and the wait times increase by more than double. Luckily, by that time Sly will be out of office and probably in Congress somewhere so that he can do even more damage.
