COUNCILMAN QUINTON LUCAS SMACKDOWN OF KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CONTENDER SCOTT TAYLOR ECO-DEVO: EAST SIDE DEFENSE OR SABOTAGE?!?!

We talked about this Kansas City economic debate earlier today but here's a more important question which persists . . .

IS COUNCIL DUDE QUINTON LUCAS STANDING UP FOR EAST SIDE ECO-DEVO OR ANGLING TO BECOME THE NEXT KANSAS CITY MAYOR???

Moreover . . .

IF YOU WERE FORCED TO PICK ONE: WOULD YOU VOTE FOR COUNCILMAN LUCAS OR SCOTT TAYLOR AS THE NEXT MAYOR???

The money line from today's round-up . . .

Councilman Quinton Lucas, who lives in the Historic 18th and Vine Jazz District and represents part of the East Side, bristled at Scott Taylor's comments and suggested that the main reason the south Kansas City councilman introduced his East Side plan was to boost his candidacy for mayor.

"Councilman Taylor has been in public office for over a decade, chairs the City Council committee on economic development and has for years served as a board member of the Economic Development Corp.," Lucas told the Kansas City Business Journal. "But until launching his campaign for mayor, (he) has never championed a single economic development initiative on Kansas City's East Side.

“I welcome his newfound interest in our community and hope he recognizes that true long-term job creation and economic opportunity in Kansas City's poorest communities requires more than press releases and adoption of plans already created and vetted by others at City Hall; it requires collaboration with the many community advocates, small business owners and everyday folks that work to build a stronger urban core in Kansas City.

"Broadsides against the many of us working in the area and our efforts doesn't really get us any closer to building more opportunities for our community."

Asked about claims that he is using the "Revive the East Side" program to boost his mayoral campaign, Taylor said. "Let people say what they'll say, but I think it's vitally important to the city's future."
