ReplyDeletereally great. Thanks for sharing T.
ReplyDeleteAh, Riverfront Park, where KC spent a fortune actually sprucing up the place and landscaping an actual city park. Their grand opening of this park was a July 4th celebration in the 80's. I can't remember the year but I was running sound for the live bands that day.
ReplyDeleteImmediately after this event, the park was closed because somebody found out this actual spot is where early KC dumped their toxic garbage, and it was unsafe to just walk there!
Now you can only launch a boat on the ramp into the Missouri River from this park. Everything else is roped or fenced off.
Good luck trying to find any information on this. This city has lots of skeletons.
The city shifted the location upstream to what is now called Berkley Riverfront Park.
ReplyDelete(Named after a KC mayor that did absolutely nothing for this city.)
It would be interesting to know what name the KC Parks Dept gave the toxic dump.
Was it ever designated an EPA cleanup site? No. They just fenced around it. It's like our very own little Chernobyl.
Hey let's go camping there!!!
