KANSAS CITY CELEBRATES HARVESTERS 'CANSTRUCTION' AT OAK PARK MALL!!!

For our late night blog community readers . . . Here's another look at local creativity along with an opportunity to support a great cause . . .

Harvesters: Canstruction Kansas City 2017

Deets:

"See amazing structures built entirely out of canned food and other nonperishable items. Teams of Kansas City architects, engineers and contractors will compete against each other to create amazing structures. When the exhibit closes, the food is donated to Harvesters and is distributed to hungry families, children and seniors in our community."

Here are a few shots from the outset of the competition . . .

Tribute to Pokémon GO is a sign of the times or at least a nice way to try and get youngsters into the donation game.

Because the display is in Kansas . . . Red Shoe Dorthy tribute:

KCMO pushes its way into the competition . . .

Donating non-perishable items is the most charitable thing anybody can do to celebrate the toy train.

The light house and the flying saucer were probably the most striking displays . . .

Finally . . . Just a bit of tribute to just one of many rock legends adored by locals. The call this one "We Could Be Heroes For The Hungry" . . .

The display and donation center will stand until March 2nd but Kansas City can support Harvesters and the amazing work they do throughout the year.

Hopefully, more for the morning update . . .

  2. Just deliver the focking food to the needy!

People don't care about art when they are starving!

  3. 7:49 that is because Harvester's isn't a true hunger organization. They exist as corporate welfare to exploit donation tax breaks.

When a grocery store or restaurant donates a product they are allowed to deduct the full retail price for the item.

The 1.99 loaf of deli bread with a sell by date of today that hasn't been bought for 2 days? Grocery Store gets to write off the 1.99, not the true value of the item which would be negligible (stale bread has little value).

It's even more crooked with Restaurants. A restaurant's menu cost is usually twice it's food cost. So if you have a steak expiring today that has been sitting in the fridge for 5 days you can cook it, vac seal it, and write off the full 19.99. Even though in reality you would have either trashed the steak or used it in a dish whose value is much less (like taking it and using it in a soup of the day).

So not only are the places getting to deduct the value of the item, the value seems to be much inflated.

This all helps contribute to these businesses paying little or no taxes. All because of items they would have thrown away.

  4. Also those "Harvester's collection bins" outside of businesses?

The business tallies those 'donations' made by you and writes them off on THEIR taxes.

With the donation bins they win twice. Once when you buy the cans of beans. Once when you drop the beans in the bin and they can now deduct the full retail value of the beans.

  5. Also, never give homeless people money. Go to the liquor store yourself and buy them quality booze. Otherwise, they will take your money and buy the cheap stuff. It's a real shame.

  6. I find some of these remarks to be CANtankerous in nature.

  7. Isn't it wonderful what a 501c non profit can do with all those tax free bennies you pay for?
