The Iceman Cometh is a play written by American writer Eugene O'Neill in 1939. First published in 1946.

The story is a four-act tragedy focusing on the psychological and emotional problems of derelicts - 12 dead-end alcoholics and three prostitutes - who sustain themselves with baseless hopes for a better tomorrow...

For better or worse, this is as good of a place as any to take a quick pause in our conversation before an impending ice storm comes to destroy Kansas City.

Or not.

This little literary moment for our blog community is important when we think about so much hope and hype for our new President and the endless adulation over the last guy to hold the office.

Or, for that matter, sobering realism through the arts is a welcomed break from so much myopic mainstream and social media chatter that only seeks to reinforce itself inside an echo chamber whilst waiting for a clever advertiser/sponsor/politico to capitalize on it all with some beastly scheme . . . Like the Chewbacca mom.

Either way, the ice storm is still coming along with the same deadline that we're all working against.
