CELEBRATE THE DESPICABLE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR RIDE TO DESOLATE BERKLEY RIVERFRONT PARK WITHOUT EVEN ASKING FOR VOTER CONSENT!!!

The last time Berkley Riverfront Park came up in the news it was because some poor dead young woman was trapped in a well and later died after what was likely a horrific sexual assault.

Here's something that's not so bad but still pretty awful . . .

DESPITE RIDERSHIP TRENDING DOWNWARD BY NEARLY HALF . . . ARROGANT, CALLOUS AND TRULY AWFUL STREETCAR SUPPORTERS WANT TO CONTINUE THE TOY TRAIN RIDE WITHOUT RESPECT ENOUGH FOR A CITYWIDE VOTE!!!

Here's a look at their latest designs and a hope that a conversation via our blog community will have much more honesty than amateur urban planners and paid consultants manufacturing the illusion of support via heavily moderated or private channels . . . The backlash toward TKC is always pretty nasty on these posts but that's probably because streetcar activists can see their gravy train coming to an end given federal funds drying up as ridership plummets to embarrassing levels.

Urban Angle: Getting Riverfront Rail Right

Money line . . .

"While there appears to be great value in connecting the riverfront through streetcar expansion, exactly how and where the streetcar connects will have long term consequences for a whole host of community priorities. The study of streetcar expansion to the riverfront should evaluate and understand these consequences, and think creatively about how the riverfront can be connected to best support community goals for redevelopment and an expanding streetcar system."

Two problems . . .

RESIDENTS AND BIZ IN THE RIVER MARKET ARE ALREADY SCREAMING ABOUT THE STREETCAR KILLING THEIR BIZ . . . AND JUST WHO IN THE HELL IS GOING TO STOP AT ABANDONED BERKLEY RIVERFRONT PARK AS THESE DESIGNS SUGGEST???

Yet again, another Kansas City development scheme is in play ONLY THIS TIME WE KNOW THAT THAT STREETCAR SIMPLY ISN'T YIELDING AMAZING RESULTS ON ITS STARTER LINE.

Instead of working to improve their first gerrymandered, despicable, corrupt starter line . . . Selfish streetcar activists who prize their own consulting fees over any semblance of civic interest would rather keep this ponzi scheme going and direct City Hall cash without even having the decency to put this play to a citywide vote.

You decide . . .

    4. Jojo, I used that line at the West Plaza Neighborhood Association meeting in spring 2015 and I got death glares. It's nice to know that at least 60% recognizes what a waste of money the streetcar is, but millennials renting on the Plaza or folks who overpaid for their bungalow before the housing bubble wouldn't mind the property value increase.

  2. The study is already underway and that's big bucks to whoever has the best verbiage and can espouse incorrect economic theory while looking sharp or at least credible in a suit.

There's nothing to be gained by mocking you anymore Tony. You're a parody of your own self.

I see no problem with an expansion whatsoever.

Would be a nice lengthy ride for the Garden City tourists to enjoy before returning to their hotels to make BMs of their PF Changs dinners.

  14. Who could have an issue with a ride to nowhere, on a technology from the past, at 100 mil a slice?

  15. TooT! TooT! LooT! LooT! More toy trains on longer tracks makes more cool fun play places for Kansas cousins. Run the FREE thingy to the gorgeous, gated communities; to those pricey, private schools; and the far suburban entertainment areas. Or, just know the developers, moneymen, et al, are quite content with their cuts. They'll be fine with driving themselves and their kiddies on long commutes in a lux suv.

  16. If there is so much demand for public transportation to River Front Park, a MAX bus should meet the need nicely and be a lot more cost effective.

  17. Just vote NO on the $800 million bonds, send a message to city hall.

  18. Cut the Police Department even more they can't get the job done.

  19. TKC being a joke isn't at all unintentional. You have to have a sense of humor when confronting this kind of KCMO mismanagement.

  20. No "consultant" ever recommended that something should NOT be built. The more they recommend, the more $$ go into their pockets. They are kind of like roaches. If you see one, you know there is an infestation somewhere in the house.

  21. Certainly Port KC is planning to pay the total cost for the expansion in yet another effort to bring development to River Front Park. It is going to take some mega-incentives from Port KC to get a promoter to build an apartment building there even with the streetcar. Once the expansion is completed who will be paying for the increased operating costs?

    ReplyDelete
  22. If there is going to be an expansion, let’s do it where KCMO residents can enjoy the benefits of a free ride. This would be Independence Ave.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Independence Avenue already has the 24 bus, and there's no law that says "only streetcars can be free,"; just make the bus free.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Before any thought is given to expansion, the streetcar people need to work on getting ridership up. I saw a trolley coming into Union Station at noon and there were 3 people on it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Now that the free loading tourist are gone, the citizens of KCMO have demonstrated they have no interest in using the streetcar. Empty trolleys are going up and down Main Street all day.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is all about the developers. They see all this vacant land in Riverfront Park just waiting for their new tax free rental high rises. So if they want the streetcar, let the developers pay for it. Problem solved.

  28. Toot Toot Toonerville Trolley is going to carry some more of the priviliged class to the fern bar or coffee stop. Amazing what todays children want to have for toys.
