TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY COUNCIL REJECT EFFORT TO CENSURE MEMBER ALISSIA CANADY AFTER KCPD TOWING CONFRONTATION!!!
Last week, Kansas City Friday night video revealed 5th District Council Lady caught on camera in a confrontation with KCPD officers over the towing of her car that wasn't tagged properly and the reaction from many local residents has been EXTREME OUTRAGE and a call for an official rebuke.
Apparently, many locals weren't appeased by the Council Lady's next day apology to those who were offended along with a call to examine police practices and towing policy.
Here are a few reactions . . .
"She should be arrested and Jean should fire her and she should be removed from the ethics committee. What a joke, anyone else would have been arrested. Great representation of your job as a council person . . "
"The Mayor has to remove her from the Ethics and Public Safety Committees . . ."
"Poor decision making for a public servant. What did she expect in driving with expired plates and confronting and arguing with law enforcement doing their job.
"Wow, such disrespect for the rule of law. She should be removed from office immediately and ethics complaints filed against her with the State Bar Association.
"With leadership who disregards reasonable deadlines (paying taxes and fees) and disrespects authority (police doing their job) It's no wonder there hasn't been ANY effective measures taken to reduce the lawlessness in KC that has resulted in the record high murder rate."
And now . . .
THERE IS A GRASSROOTS MOVE ASKING FOR A FORMAL CENSURE OF COUNCIL LADY CANADY BUT THAT EFFORT HAS BEEN PUT DOWN BY HER COLLEAGUES AND NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERS HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WILL NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY!!!
Here's the word . . .
"My council person was extremely friendly but she told me not to bother when I asked her about how to circulate a petition. Apparently, the council wants to bury this abuse of authority and they would like the story to go away instead of recognizing there is a problem here . . . I'm going to continue to my effort but it's unfortunate that ethics are such a low priority right now among our council members."
On the bright side, this smack down reveals a good working relationship among members of council who are at least looking to protect one another in the face of an ongoing media firestorm.
Developing . . .
politicians are above the law in Kansas City Tk.
ReplyDeleteYou should know that by now.
KCPD should not be able to tow cars at random
ReplyDeleteThat is the ordinance we must work on!
2:30, it wasn't at random, her registration had expired several months ago. Assuming this was her first ticket for that violation, towing does seem excessive. If she had been ticketed for it before, towing was the right response. We may never know which of those is the case.
ReplyDeleteWe need to separate the two issues
ReplyDelete1) She needs to register her car on time. She is a public official and should always be on top of her tax/titling responsibilities.
2) We should not be towing cars on the 1st infraction of an expired plate. Towing should only be an option after at minimum 2 infractions. Towing a car for a cause like this is predatory. While Ms. Canady doesn't fit the profile, most expired plates are due to inability to afford the fees or the repairs needed to pass inspection. To then place those people in a situation where they either pay an expensive tow ticket immediately or face compounding fees by the day is probably the most predatory thing we can do as a city & it should stop.
Finally, police are not the end all be all nor above reproach. She is well within "ethics" to state her grievance with the police. None of her actions were illegal.
Wha?! But I didn du nutin! You all jus rasis. I b on da cownsel so don be town my azz or itll be yourz!
ReplyDeleteJustice for sale in kcmo. No reason for people to obey the law.
ReplyDeleteWhat she did was clearly illegal. Her response to the situation was illegal AND unethical. Why is she not being criminally charged?
ReplyDelete^^Truth
ReplyDelete"She should be removed from office immediately and ethics complaints filed against her with the State Bar Association".
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that one there is virtually nothing an attorney can do that will cause disciplinary action.
This is not about whether the towing policy is right or wrong. The fact is she got into the vehicle while it was in the process of being towed. Anyone else would have been in jail with a high bail, probably some type of assault on an officer charge.
^2:54 PM Hogwash!
ReplyDeleteIf it failed inspection it shouldn't be on the road.
Don't jeopardize my safety at your convenience!
Can't afford the taxes, then you can't afford a car.
Can't afford the repair, then you can't afford a car.
She gets a pass for two reasons -
1) She black
2) On the council
They only seize parked cars for a reason. Its an easy way to come up on a quick dollar. Don't have to argue about it, don't have to explain subjective nature of it. Just steal the car like a thief in the night.
ReplyDeleteIf it was the law or even a good safety practice, officers would be pulling a lot more cars off the road when they pull over a driver. But they don't. Because it isnt about your safety, its about making a dollar.
Exactly. Now as a former prosecutor she's had the opportunity to see how the rest of us live. Had my car towed for a SINGLE parking ticket after my metered was 3 MINUTES expired. It's a racket and needs to be reformed so that policies are equitable and consistent.
DeleteI'm sick of negroes being treated like children and this is a great example.
ReplyDeleteNegroes are treated more like children than ever before. We sit back and allow them to have their tantrums. We pacify them. We give them what they need because they cannot take care of themselves.
Like small children, they don't know how to stand up and better themselves (as a collective, not individually as there are plenty of negroes who do not fall into the welfare, blame society trap) and so they take out their frustrations on each other and on society.
If they really want to better themselves and their communities, they would stop taking handouts and work themselves up.
Instead, what we are seeing is that the black community becomes a laughing stock and they have just destroyed their city in more ways than one.
You know, when a toddler calls a grown up a poopy head, adults laugh and allow it because the toddler doesn't know any better.
Negroes are being treated more like children who cannot function without daddy government.
Whites are still supreme. Undisputed fact.
Don't have an illegal car, and they won't have a reason to make a quick dollar.
ReplyDeleteDon't drive around with expired tags, or outdated temps, and they won't have a reason to make a dollar.
Don't drive around with illegal tinted windows and they won't have a reason to make a quick dollar.
When you do get pulled over, for what ever reason, keep your hands on the wheel and tell the office before you make any move.
Treat the office with respect.
Do I need to teach you dumb asses anything else?
HELLO! Try to pay attention...
ReplyDeleteShe PAID all her taxes on time. You can check that out at the Jackson County website. She mere lost track of getting her new sticker for her license plates.
HERE IS THE ACTUAL SCANDAL: The City has a nice, expensive new tow lot to pay for. So it is not enough that a citizen who forgot to get a license sticker gets a $80 ticket (as Canady did) but then he gets the car towed (by a "city approved" tow truck) to the City lot, the cost jumps to $400-500 -- a nice haul for the City, but in reality a scam that would make the Mayor of Ferguson blush!
The KCMOPD should be ashamed of itself for a policy that is so embarrassing.
Phil; I agree with you. Folks want to attack a public official. Especially a black one. Chief Forté wants KCPD officers to learn how to interact better with the community and this would have been a great opportunity to let her off with a warning, or drop her car and write a ticket. Anyone watching their car get towed for an expired tag would have been desperate to prevent it from getting taken to the tow lot.
DeleteI'm with you two. Towing a car for an expired tag is over the top and exploitive. The policies aren't consistent or equitable at all. If you tow one for expired tags, tow them all (obviously I don't believe this is the solution just making a pount).
DeleteImagine what having your car towed would do to you if you made $10 an hour. Or even $15. Cost of living in this city has skyrocketed between the rents and the utilities. Having your car towed could literally make you homeless, lose your job... Besides, who wouldn't have done everything to talk their way out of that exploitive expense? I probably would have been bawling...
Did she really climb in the car and start the engine while it was already lifted by the tow truck?
ReplyDeleteIf she so stupid to FORGET to register her car, how can she take care of my needs as a citizen?
ReplyDeleteGive the cops a chance and they uphold the law, it's their job!
Let the lawbreakers pay for the new tow lot, and quit raising my taxes for the stuff needed for the law breakers -
jail
tow lots
etc
The people who have always tried to cause me trouble at work and at the courthouse are arrogant black women.
ReplyDeleteAngry. Mean. Black women.
Always.
Phil Cardarella nailed it.
ReplyDeleteHe always does.
The real scandal is she has a free parking lot under city hall to park in but is too fucking fat and lazy to walk the 2 blocks from there to where her car was parked. Which just makes her a normal Kansas Citian.
ReplyDeletePhil nailed it. The KCPD need a reality check and hopefully they get one. Please make sure your wife does something about this as it only harms poor people to the benefit of the rich.
ReplyDeleteYou Peckerwoods stop being RAYSHITZ. Just think if we let these mooching blacks get away with no tags pretty soon non of us will have to get them either. Think of it like voter ID for vehicles.
ReplyDeleteKind of like Russ "Road Rage" Johnson slid without censure.
ReplyDeletePhil is wrong and does not nail a thing.
ReplyDeleteThe Council Lady was caught in violation of the law, of a state law none the less. To be a few days over on your tag renewal is one thing. When it becomes months it is no longer an over sight, it's pure arrogance with respect of the law.
If she had been previous stopped and warned of the expired tag (as some say she was which I might add hasn't been denied) and was still on the road with the vehicle then by all means it should have been towed. Many law enforcement agencies will do just that and a lot of them I am on terms with say once the motor vehicle is on the tow truck it isn't coming off till it arrives at the tow lot unless someone is standing there with the proper current tags and registration for that motor vehicle before the tow truck pulls away. But that they will still be charged for a hook up fee which as a rule is no less than $50.00.
Let me be clear - no one is above the law. Not a politician, not a priest, not a criminal, not a police officer. We are all accountable for our actions. Antonio Villaraigosa
Black people are above the law! Where you been, towel boy?
DeleteIf you can't enforce a traffic violation, I wouldn't trust you to run the FBI. Now I understand. CYOA.
ReplyDeletePhil,
ReplyDeleteThe KCPD has been mostly a revenue generator for years. But I doubt they took it upon themselves to raise revenue. They were directed by elected officials.
Seems to me that if she is part of the pack of cronies that set up this tow/storage scam she should get a good dose of it when she is in violation. If she doesn't like it she knows how to write a proposed ordinance and bring new business to the table. If it is good enough treatment for citizens and non citizens alike then my vote goes with she is shit out of luck in trying to weasel out.
ReplyDeleteBlack? What you fat Peckerwoods don't vote in KC?
ReplyDeleteWhy are there NO Blacks in the leadership of the Kansas City Atheist Coalition???
ReplyDeleteJoshooa, what say you, white boy?
If she was white she would have been arrested, end of story. Cops are afraid of the new we got a president of color chips that have grown on the shoulders of the exalted didn't do's.
ReplyDelete2:54 you're a f@c&ing moron and don't know the law. She was obstructing the officers when she got in the car to keep it from being towed.
ReplyDeleteIf someone else on the street did this they would have been arrested and she should have been arrested. Why wasn't she, I'd bet my next EBT card that Forte' did what he could to keep this from going to arrest.
The cops were doing their job....so go f@#k yourself
Good Job Superdave
ReplyDeleteShe needs to be criminally charged for obstruction with mandatory Weight Watchers classes as a part of her probation.
ReplyDeleteJesus Byron, will never learn. What a sad sack of shit.
ReplyDeleteThey' re all in it together. Nothing will be done. It will just go away. They'll pass out some extra fresh food at the food banks and pass out some free stuff. The usual bread and circus. Lots of
ReplyDeleteSmiling pictures everywhere.
