TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! EMPTY STOREFRONTS PLAGUE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR LINE!!!
Kansas City mainstream media press release coverage and a constant stream of City Hall manufactured hype has a way of convincing people to ignore what their eyes reveal.
To wit . . . Here's a simple question for tonight:
IF THE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN HAS BEEN SOOOOOOO SUCCESSFUL AT SPARKING NEW DEVELOPMENT . . . WHY ARE THERE SO MANY VACANT STOREFRONTS ALONG THE STREETCAR LINE?!?!
It's something that's plain to see and a simple question that will be met with canned numbers about all the tax breaks given away to developers but very little real biz growth and/or job creation outside of the consultant class paid to play cheerleader for this doomed effort.
You decide . . .
I think the obvious answer here is that mayor James requests tkc to hold his breath and wait for new business and jobs on the streetcar line.
ReplyDeleteKansas City bait and switch.
ReplyDeleteNow look at all the development cropping up around the new hotel! It's all good.
The answer is: MORE MONEY.
ReplyDeleteAll aboard an extension vote!
They need to go back to selling underage girls like in Tom Pendgast's time.
ReplyDeleteKeep a banging that all things miserable because of the TOY TRAIN.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, how's that going for you?
That's odd because, there are 50% more storefront business than when the line was proposed and passed, and unlike JoCo stores in strip malls, they aren't subsidized.
ReplyDeleteMath is hard, boys. Someday you'll be men, though, and it will be important to shut the fuck up when you don't know what your talking about. Never mind, none of you will ever be men...
You're*
Delete6:42: They don't teach pupils how to write in rural Kansas or some state very much like it because they don't think people there have much to write about.
ReplyDelete6:40 proves the point.
It's a fucking blog grammar bitch
DeleteFunny, that for rent sign really stands out in the heart of the line. It's only when you get to 18th and vine that things start to get busy. And aren't we paying 20 million a year for that?
ReplyDeleteThat space will soon be occupied

The streetcar is a red herring. It's just another development scam for all the lawyers in KC looking to get more contracts. Not real transit or an economic boost for anybody who doesn't already have a key to the business.
ReplyDeletestreetcar is Sly's last stand. If this doesn't work he'll never be Claire's replacement.
ReplyDeleteThe streetcar is for white people afraid to take a bus. Truth.
ReplyDeleteafter the air port boondoogle the street car is doomed to fail. the yuppies downtown are the ones who voted for it. every body knows they will eat anything that is stuffed into their mouth.
ReplyDeleteThey run out of Dink's to fill all those lofts and apartments?
ReplyDeleteNothing to get excited about. I'm sure this is all about Missouri trying to fake out Kansas in the border wars.
ReplyDeleteJust put unemployed millenial "entrepreneurs" in the retail windows. They can act as mimes and play act the breathless excitement of the dense urban environment that downtown KCMO has become.
ReplyDeleteA city that never sleeps!
In fact, let them sleep there. Their parents will thank you for getting them out of the house.
FTW
DeleteDid you get out of your mother's basement to take that picture? If its so bad, why don't you post more pictures of empty storefronts.
ReplyDelete^^^ Agree.
ReplyDeleteBut I'll tell you this, the streetcar supporters are ready to stomp on anybody to get their way. Don't you forget it.
Streetcar will save Kansas City. If it doesn't, then we're screwed.
ReplyDeleteCutting edge intel....Tony's denizens yearn for transportation systems designed for a 1950's economy.
ReplyDeleteLet me catch my breath.
The buyer's remorse on this thing will be faster and more severe than that of the average Bowflex purchase.
ReplyDeleteSHOCKER!!! More bitching and whining from the creative class which is as pointless as a hipster's beard. This is brought to you by this guy:
