Media reports a Northeast Kansas City killing as the latest local homicide investigation overnight . . .
KMBC: The victim, a man in his 50s, was found in a house in the 300 block of Lawndale Avenue about 3:45 a.m.
Again, this is homicide #39 so far this year compared to 32 last year at this time which was a 36% increase over 2014 numbers. This year's homicide totals are QUICKLY MOVING TOWARD A FIVE-YEAR-HIGH and clearly are trending upward.
Overall last night was rather violent with an injury shooting reported along with many other violent incidents occurring overnight.
The KCPD Chief is at the scene of the latest murder and he reports this is the 4th murder over the past 9 days.

ReplyDeleteThis property is a duplex that we have called 911 and 311 on multiple times. This is the third property in less than a year that we have reported tirelessly that has still ultimately ended up with a violent crime. It's really frustrating and makes folks feel helpless in their own neighborhood when we witness these things, report them, and this is the result.

If anyone questions why Streetcar upsets me so much, it is because this kind of thing happens with regularity on KC's east side and no one cares. We cuts police while we spend $ on economic development downtown. I understand KC should be capable of doing more than one thing, but the problem is they are not. They are building fancy things for white kids and tourists and neglected POCs in economically diverse neighborhoods.
ReplyDeleteBryan, with all due respect, us taxpayers have thrown billions upon billions to black people. How many hundreds of millions has been spent on the KCMO school district and look where it is? If we stop spending money on things for the "white kids and tourists" until the problem in the black community is fixed then we will never spent money on anyone except black people till the end of time. You know us stupid white folks work and pay taxes for those who don't and yes, we damn well want something for us for all our hard work. Throwing resources has shown for decades, has been proven over and over millions of times, does not work. Black people have to take responsibility. Until they value education,work, nuclear families, etc nothing will change regardless how much money you throw at them. Adding 10,000 more cops won't stop black people from killing other people. They are willfully ignorant and until that changes, nothing changes.

ReplyDeleteBlack people aren't the only people that live in east kc. Are the predictable concentrated in certain areas? Yes, but eastsiders whether black, white, hispanic, asian or African - no part of this city should be neglected. Further, Brian is right, most times consistent trash pickup is not an option. That's why I'd rather pay a third party for the service. Black politicians going on mainstream media touting this and that has caused people to believe that money has been put into neighborhoods. It hasnt. The ultimate result of those projects is that Black polticians circle of friends network have been paid gratuitously for both work never done and projects whuch have no markers for success or failure. The money was never intended nor used for neighborhoods. They have always been glamour projects. Once the cameras go off, the media never follows up to see if there's been any change or benefit to the community. I think people watch too much tv. You wanna know what's really going on, you have come see for yourself. Stadler is right. Well meaning people and legitimate complaints go ignored. Police knew the duplex was a problem and did nothing here. Now. We're supposed to think they are heroes? Another person died where the police had full knowledge of the activity going on there. You simply wont see this perspective on the news.

ReplyDeleteThe problems at this property stem from the slum Lord who owns it. The suspect in this murder didn't live here when we first began reporting problems. The property owner is white. He never comes around. He has a "property manager" who is a very angry and apathetic man. They rent to folks without all of the utilities turned on and it is a duplex so we're never sure who is living there or in what unit at any given time. For a while, there was a family flying a confederate flag. It has become a trash dumping ground. I feel very badly for the neighbors of this property. Another example of the city failing Indian Mound residents.
