KANSAS CITY POLITICOS DECLARE LUXURY CROWN CENTER DISTRICT BLIGHTED IN ORDER TO PROVIDE TAX BREAKS!!!
The biz journal offers the best roundup and headline regarding this DESPICABLE city hall action that represents the worst of Kansas City crony capitalism. Checkit: Quinton Lucas on Twitter
What TIF started out as was simply marginal pricing, much like the Royals discounted tickets on a Monday night when they had a crappy team. But as is bound to happen when you have low life politicians and lawyers involved it has evolved into a corrupt mess that has nothing to do with development.
ReplyDeleteWhat TIF has become is a money machine whereby developers get a tax break that they share with law firms and politicians. Meanwhile the remaining businesses and individuals are left to pay more because of the shrinking tax base.
Steal from the poor, given to the uber rich. It's the American way! President Donald Trump will win.
ReplyDeleteAnd people wonder why city services suck so badly?
ReplyDeleteThe Hall's have paid council candidates a high-pile of money over the years to avoid paying their fair-share of taxes. In particular, Evil Baroness Kate Shields and her pet crow Phil Cardarella have spent decades sticking their noses up the ass cracks of numerous members of the Hall family in order to claim they smell roses. When Katie was County Executive, her assessment department simply ignored the market value of Hall family properties. In addition, Kate used her the county's votes on the TIF Commission to shovel more money at the Halls.
ReplyDeleteBetter keep attracting those billable hours Skippy.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why the people of KCMO have a bad taste in their mouth on TIF'S and would like to get rid of TIF'S.
ReplyDeleteJust a further example of how irresponsible and corrupt this city is when it comes to fiscal responsibility. Who the hell is defining these terms at city hall, Bill Clinton? If this wasn't so disgusting it would be hilarious. Be good little boys and pay your E Tax now.
ReplyDeletePhil Scaglia is selling his lobbying services on TIF issues. Says he is the only one who can turn Jackson County and taxing jurisdiction votes in favor of granting incentives.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know of a new "in" for Phil?
Phil Scaglia should have gone to jail over that lobbying scandal that blew up when Cleaver was first elected.
ReplyDeleteQuinton Lucas:
ReplyDeleteThe definition of KCMO "blight"
"...that condition and/or location of real estate wherein developers and city officeholders agree to declare such designation while mutually benefiting from said decision."
E.g., Burns and McDonnell Engineering, one of KCMO's most prosperous private companies sought blight designation for adjacent property (Bannister and Wornall) to their headquarters, for expansion. After hundreds of company employees made campaign donations to Mayor James and Council, blight designation was approved, company avoided $80+ million in future taxes, and the city paid for the new headquarters expansion to lease back to developers. Average compensation for expansion employees = $100,000+ Approximately 85 percent of those company employees making campaign contributions to Mayor James are KCMO non-residents.
Mr. Lucas, you were elected to the Council with much fanfare. Will you remain silent and subservient to Mayor James' dictates, or will you begin forcefully speaking out for all residents, and just not the business/developer class?
Good.
ReplyDeleteNone of you morons seems to understand how TIFs work. And 3. Decades of vacant, unused land that contributes nothing to the tax base is long enough.
