Before it hits Kansas City mailboxes and then the garbage . . . Our blog community features the FIRST look at a bit of high priced mail supporting a write-in school board candidate.
To wit . . .
CHECK OUT THIS EPIC ENDORSEMENT FOR JOHN FIERRO AND CONFIRMATION THAT THE UPCOMING SCHOOL BOARD WRITE-IN SLATE IS PART OF MAYOR SLY'S BIGGER PLANS FOR THE KCPS!!!
To be fair and to his credit . . . Mr. Fierro is easily the most qualified of all the candidates for the upcoming election and his tireless volunteerism has nearly universal support as he strives to garner this unpaid, thankless and seemingly hopeless job.
However . . . Look at this bit of mail closely and notice former Mayor Sly Chief Of Staff John McGurk as Treasurer of the campaign supporting Mr. Fierro . . . Also, school board candidates rarely garner this kind of full-page glossy publicity that easily cost tens of thousands of bucks . . . Again, for an unpaid gig.
Like it or not, John Fierro's school board campaign is part of a bigger plan.
This is important because Mayor Sly started his political career promising that he wasn't going to interfere with Kansas City Public Schools and now this election play probably signals and impending takeover or at least a bit of upheaval from an Administration that has consistently worked to thwart voter participation.
At the very least . . . This could be Mayor Sly's way of silencing the kind of school board opposition which shut down the BNIM TIF and embarrassed the Mayor by calling out his corporate tax break agenda.
Remember that there's a forum coming up tonight where a handful of supporters will ask these candidates a bunch of softball questions.

KCPS is finally turning the corner. Sly will get them accredited.
Fierro would make a good school board member. The endorsement probably does him more harm than good.

ReplyDeleteAgree 100% with the mayor here. We have had 30 years of so many "activists" turning our schools into garbage for the sake of their own wallets. Now we finally have a chance to change the way things are done and transform the district once and for all.
ReplyDeletewhatever Mayor James is doing, it's better than what we've got so far. KC should encourage our Mayor to do something about the schools. The current plan isn't working.

ReplyDeleteYou'd be a fool to vote for him. You're better off writing in your own name then writing in Fierro.
It'll take a write-in and if misspelled, it won't count. So Fierrow, Feearrow, Feiarro, etc. won't work. But then the mayor had a great success electing his slate of folks to the city council.
