TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY EARNINGS TAX GROUND GAME DEBATE!!! INSIDERS BATTLE OVER TECH VS. CONVERSATIONAL PITCH TO VOTERS!!!

Behind the scenes there's a debate raging among supporters of the earnings tax over the best way to approach voters. Today's nice weather offers an important moment for Question 1 advocates to get out and start talking to the electorate whilst making vague threats about the consequences of defeat for this longstanding local levy.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY E-TAX INSIDERS DEBATE OVER USING TABLETS TO MAKE THEIR PITCH TO VOTERS OR RELYING STRICTLY ON A SCRIPT AND A SMILE!!!

Detractors of the tablet approach say the impromptu tablet tech viewing demand can seem condescending . . . Especially in the urban core . . . After all, watching commercials with people is kinda boring . . .

Here's one of the many clips that Kansas City voters might be forced to endure if they dare answer their door on a sunny day for strangers . . .

Critics of the tablet approach argue that the old school personal touch is more effective and eliminates that needles tech campaign prop.

But it gets better . . .

THE EARNINGS TAX GROUND GAME LEADERSHIP OF PHIL SCAGLIA IS FACING FIERCE CRITICISM OVER THE TABLET TECH GIMMICK AND THE FACT THAT LOW VOTER TURNOUT THREATENS TO CHANGE THE DYNAMICS OF THIS ELECTION . . .

PUT SIMPLY, THE GROUND GAME DOESN'T SEEM TO BE GETTING PEOPLE EXCITED TO GO OUT AND VOTE!!!

To be fair, the old style of campaigning also has its share of critics and with voter turnout at an all time low in KCMO . . . The lists, resources and data driven campaign employed by Mr. Scaglia might be more effective at targeting likely voters than they old scattershot neighborhood approach.

Either way . . . This post serves as a warning to voters . . . E-Tax supporters will be out in full force today and demanding locals partake in their pitch.

You decide . . .

  1. so you're telling me that today is a good day to tell strangers NO.

    that's a given.

  2. The fact they have to try trickery to sell the E tax tells me it's not a good thing for KCMO voters! My vote is NO!!!

  3. It is refreshing to know the one person we posted his NO vote is so stupid that they think an Ipad video is a trick.
I bet the crew also leaves literature and visits with homeowners.
The old way by Freedom and Terry Riley is becoming a thing of the past. Or it would be councilman Ken Bachus and not councilwoman Alissa Canady.

  4. False claims and promises delivered electronically appear to be a part of the "smart city" joke and are the best way to get to millenials and texters, even though most of them won't vote.
The claims and promises are still lies, but don't look quite so bad as twenty dollar bills in paper bags and cards to pass out at the polling places.
It's still hard to avoid the word "shakedown", though.

  6. Greet these buffoons with one question.

Was paying to send Cindy Circo to Milan to stumble through a speech showing a city government that is acting as a good steward of residents' taxes?

They will not have a video clip to find an answer to explain that example of wasteful spending.

  7. No to ETax as long as Troy Schulte is city manager.

  8. Tablets are so 2014.

  9. 2016 is all about automated commodes. Had mine installed last week. I just got one shitty teeth cleaning from the damn thing.

  12. I encountered one of the canvassing groups early and in all honesty it was a good experience. After i viewed the presentation we talked and they answered many questions that I had.I would recommend this method more than someonw knocking on my door and handing me a flier and then leaving and not being able to answer my questions.

  13. RE: "THE EARNINGS TAX GROUND GAME LEADERSHIP OF PHIL SCAGLIA"

That would be Phil Scaglia of Lee's Summit?

Phil Scaglia, whose political consulting company, Powerful Performance Solutions is run out of his Lee's Summit home?

The same Phil Scaglia, former staffer for U.S. Rep. Karen McCarthy and chief of staff/campaign manager for U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver?

The Powerful Performance Solutions, LLC who raised eyebrows with OpenSecrets.org Anomaly Tracker when they discovered that in 2014 of the $600,339 spent by Cleaver For Congress, $353,295 went to Powerful Performance Solutions, LLC.?

The Powerful Performance Solutions who donated money to the Sly James For Mayor committee?

And in turn, the Sly James For Mayor campaign paid fees to Powerful Performance Solutions?

    Yes, on all counts.

  14. Voted for it last time, but not this time

  15. At 8:08 I'm trying to figure out what your point is? He's politically tied and he really isnt doing anything different than the late Pat Gray or any other political consultant.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 10:24 you forgot Jeff Roe but I'm not a hater. Lots of consultants pay all of the campaign cost out of their budget. Not really unusual.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Son of an ass. Do not like this etax thing at all. Voting NO.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Why did TKC specifically mention his name?

Do you recall the Scaglia name appearing on a previous TKC post? I don't

Are you aware of the political wrangling currently in-play which has implications for a possible change in multiple officeholders representing KCMO and the region?

Most casual readers of this blog won't have recognized the name, so some background education is in order.

  20. KCMO POLITICS ENCAPSULATED!!

Phil Scaglia picked to push the Earnings Tax renewal vote

    EXCEPT

Phil Scaglia doesn't pay the 1 percent earnings tax himself!! CLASSIC!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm kinda curious too as to how Phil became the target too since the post doesnt mention who would be the alternative to the ground game? Terry Riley? We all know he has a ton of skeletons in his closet and he is a self serving arrogant asshole. Freedom Inc? Four percent voter turnout. Scaglia is by far a better choice.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just researched Congressman Cleaver's federal campaign disclosures. It doesnt list Scaglia company getting over 300k????

So where do these figures come from?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Vote YES IN THE ETAX. I AM.

    ReplyDelete
  24. They pitch.
