THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST: INSIDERS FEAR LOSING THE EARNINGS TAX COULD BE MAYOR SLY'S LEGACY!!!

Supporters of Kansas City earnings tax renewal are starting to have their doubts about the mayor's ability to lead the effort and win votes by the sheer power of his personality.

Moreover . . .

LIKE IT OR NOT, THE EARNINGS TAX CAMPAIGN WITHOUT KANSAS CITY POLITICAL CONSULTANT LEGEND PAT GRAY HAS BEEN SPUTTERING!!!

Another TKC EXCLUSIVE deet . . .

McGurk is no longer in control . . . Turns out he hasn't proven to be much of a leader or fundraiser.

Here are just a few items that we're BREAKING tonight but we'll follow-up later . . .

The E-tax supporters live in fear of the upcoming Rex Sinquefield money bomb

At the last moment, Rex and his crew swept in with $250K 4 years ago but it wasn't enough to run an effective campaign an the e-tax was passed by an overwhelming margin with nearly 80% of voters showing their approval. This time around, the numbers aren't looking so good and TURNOUT is going to play a bigger factor in how this vote is determined.

Northland HATES The Earnings Tax

The campaign on the other side of the bridge hasn't even begun. Mailings are limited, very few signs or billboards. Because Sly has never won the Northland, the team he leads doesn't understand how to campaign up in that part of town.

East side bribes incentives aren't buying the support expected because they aren't paying the right people

The new campaign strategy employed by the newbie E-tax team shows us that Mayor Sly is still relatively new to politics. To put it bluntly, "everybody ate" when Pat Gray was charge . . . Whereas Mayor Sly and his corporate crew are simply too stingy to understand the subtle difference between public tax subsidy and earned campaign cash that actually goes toward getting the vote out.

Sly has aligned with suburbanites and so many other suits who don't know how to campaign in the urban core. Even that $18 million they've promised 18th & Vine isn't as effective as putting cash in the hands of committee people, neighborhood leaders and other influencers.

Grow up . . .

This is Kansas City and bribes have always been a fundamental part of the political process.

Again, there's a lot more to this but one AWESOME TKC INSIDER says it best . . .

"The earnings tax campaign is moving soooooo slow. They've got a lot of ground they need to cover in order to safely assure a victory. All of these yes-men have convinced the Mayor that his popularity alone will assure success. I'm not sure that's the case. If they lose, this will be the Mayor's real legacy and it'll be devastating for Kansas City."

And while the Mayor has worked to build a streetcar, establish a hotel and possibly create a new airport . . . All of those dreams might not be enough to overcome increasing voter hostility regarding Kansas City tax disparity.

And so, the campaign continues and inspires our playlist for tonight . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.

  1. But do you know why the north land hates the e-tax Tony? Because they're the only ones paying it. Look at the exemptions. That's the real key to blowing this election wide open. When people find out how many people are exempt from paying the earnings tax. That will change the tone of this campaign. Maybe people will start to wake up.

^^^^^ No, but that makes a good point. Without the earnings tax, KC might get more performers who don't want to sacrifice one percent of their income whenever they set foot in Kansas City.

  5. You have to stop listening to Terry Riley Tony. When Pat was alive he and his crew ate printers ate and people running his surveys and Freedom Inc. ate. The tax continues to poll in the upper 70s as it always has early on in the campaign. Ministers are signing on and neighborhood groups are signing on also. The only difference in this campaign and the last campaign is that fewer people are living in the black wards as the population shifts south.

  10. We will pass the earnings tax on April 5th.

  11. The earnings tax will pass for all of the wrong reasons. Kc's tax base is declining overall. The tax paying population is moving out past Clay County and they've moved to Johnson County. The people left in KC know that they don't want higher property taxes so they will vote for this out of fear. It's not that they know this is good for KC, it's that they're scared of the alternative. That's how it's done in politics. The people in power rule by terrifying their constituents.

  12. This about it this way

    - North doesn't want it

    - south doesn't want it.

So what you've got left is the east side grifters and the brookside liberals.

IF they don't show up to the polls in strong numbers. Goodbye etax.
