This writer contends that the use of rubber bullets COULD curb the number of deadly police shootings . . .
Rubber Bullets Only: An Open Letter to Kansas City's Mayor James and Chief Forté
Here's the basics of the argument:
"Standard bullets need not be eliminated completely; more dangerous ammunition can be kept on reserve for escalated situations, for instance if it was determined a suspect was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
"Kansas City can lead by example, showing America how many lives can be saved if we use the technology available to us."
Reax . . .
To which the Chief responds: "Unfortunately officers won't have time to determine if a subject has a vest on before real bullets are loaded."
All of this is something to consider for the late night as the quotient of violence in Kansas City, Missouri increases.

ReplyDeleteAnd what happens when someone starts killing kids in a school or shoots an officer on a traffic stop or call. Does anyone legitimately expect an officer to stop and load rubber bullets?
ReplyDeleteI suggest the star look into how many times a suspect has presented lethal force (i.e. Blunt object, knife, etc) against another citizen and or officer and less lethal means we're used to end the threat instead of using lethal force.
ReplyDeleteBut we all know that doesn't fit the stars agenda and would show far too often how officers preserve lives and safety by using tasers or bean bag guns instead of their firearms.
Obviously Garrett Griffin has never been east of Troost or to Westport on a weekend summer night when the gunfire erupts.
