End Of Kansas City Conservative Radio: Entercom Parts Ways With Darla Jaye

Staunch Conservatives in Kansas City along with the most informed denizens of the local discourse are taking this one to heart . . . Here is what's really an end of an era for Kansas City and another sign that the conversation has moved to the Internet. Take a look . .

"After the best 10 and a half years of my radio career, at KMBZ and Talk 980, I was let go today. I want to thank Entercom for the time of my life and my beloved listeners for being so loyal and such great friends. I look forward to my next great opportunity, whether that is in radio or in some great new venture."

We can only hope that Darla stays in Kansas City . . . Remember this blog started off talking with her weekly.

Like it or not, Darla is one of the most knowledgeable, thoughtful and dedicated talkers Kansas City has ever seen . . . She counts locals on both sides of the aisle among her friends if not fans. Her FB announcement earned more than 500 comments and DOZENS of shares.

Developing . . .

  1. She was costing to much and the money wasn't coming in to support her.

  2. She was irritating as hell anyway. Good riddance.

  3. I smell a Glazer story about this. Well least I smell the stink of one. Darla hated Glazer so doubt he will go there but then when has Craig showed he was smart.

  4. Sorry to see Darla go. I always enjoyed the show, but found myself switching to Rob Carson more since she added the "Jaye Team". Barry Kaplan was the only one who added any intelligence to the discussions. Cheryl Obermiller just repeated Fox News talking points and had no original thought, educational background or analytical ability.

  5. Carsons show started out decent but has seriously flamed out

  6. So the only time listening to that station now is when Jonathen Weir is on. Can't stand the Twit and Twat, errrr, Scott and Dana show and since Art Bell went wacko and finally was replaced by that dude from St. Louis, Cst2Cst sucks too. Burns and Montecelli? Like listening to two drunk Greek Life castaways.
Oh well, Guess that subscription I have to Phil Hendrie and Anthony Cumias network the internets will have to do.

  7. Hard to maintain an audience between AM & FM at the same time

  8. First causality of the brand split. Jaye was the longest tendered political talk show host in the city. But it's like everything else once you hit seven years it's time to move on to another station or market. If I were 710 I'd move her to replace Greg Knapp. I personally think more people at Entercom should be fired. First most New Boss, secondly Parks and Wright. They took what was a good political talk show and turned it into Dare and Murphy light. Then get rid of the two dolts on mid day.

  9. ^^^^^^^^ Look it's an idiot

    ReplyDelete
  10. Dana Wright, not a good talker and very little understanding of the issues. Darla was a lot smarter.

    ReplyDelete
  11. She was much more informed than Dana & Parks put together. This is just another bad move from fading entercom.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This is all Scott Parks. He forced her on the AM dial that NOBODY LISTENS to and knew that this was going to happen. He has force feed us the CRAP called TREND KC Scott Parks is the biggest piece of SHIT on radio

    ReplyDelete

    1. Parks is only assistant PD. Not sure he'd have that kind of pull.

  13. They need to fire Dana. I refuse to listen to her.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Don't let the door smack your fat azz on the way out.

  15. Entercom = Star

  16. I think conservative radio is dying out,
    Darla was sweet.
The biggest mistake was Zach Burns (I'm not gay ,i just sound gay VERY GAY)
The Burns segment is a costly error in judgment, the man is odd VERY odd.
    bye bye Darla

    ReplyDelete
  17. Are Bob Thesko and Zach Burns in an off radio relationship or is it Scott Parks and Zach...straight men just don't talk that way to each other.
Zach Burns has got to go.He hates Kansas City

    ReplyDelete
  18. Just what was Darla's real claim to fame?

Nothing that is what. She was just another media voice who out priced herself and committed radio suicide. Ask Nycki Pace how that works.

    ReplyDelete
  19. ^^^^^^^
And what is your radio job pray tell?

    ReplyDelete
  20. ^^^^^^^ It's ME! I'm a FAGGOT!!!!1/15/16, 9:23 AM

    LOOK ITS ME!!!!! ATTENTION WHORE!!!!

  21. She is a wonderful person but was 23rd in the market in key demos. Say what you want about D&P but they are consistently in the top 5 in PM drive. It's all about numbers folks.

    ReplyDelete
  22. While you may or may not have agreed with her politics, Darla Jaye was always fair and well-prepared for interviews.
She's a class act and will be missed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Inevitable. Several of her recent observations had been dangerously close to rational -- a sure sign of trouble for a right-wing radio personality.

Gotta hand it to the Big Rushola: All these years he has never let his own sane opinions escape into his on-air persona's output. (Seriously, did you think a mediocre sports jock from a moderate GOP family -- a gluttonous, multiple-married doper -- actually believes the crap he is paid to shovel across the airwaves?)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rarely a regular radio listener, so can't say I'll miss the show.

However, now that she's free, why doesn't KCPT's RUCKUS install her as a semi-permanent panelist? You know Ruckus, the weekly program that always features 3 Liberal panelists against 1 Conservative, and claims they present a balanced viewpoint....NOT!!!

Last time Darla Jaye appeared on that show, she had some really good insights.

    Wish her the best.

  25. New Boss aka Jack Landreth is absolutely terrible. No one wants to work with him. He's the reason the news department is in dire shape. Pretty sad that top brass at Entercom would stick with this guy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Actually, the news department (as well as programming) like new boss (I was there a few weeks ago). He's raised the numbers on both stations, and has worked to get a real 24 hour newsroom put together. He also supports his staff, which is more than can be said in most stations.

    ReplyDelete
  27. You might have been there. I worked there. I know better. He's the reason many long time newsies hit the door.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Keep us up to date on Darla's next job. Looks like there will be nothing to listen to between 6 A.M. and 11 A. M. on 980.

  29. I'm sorry to see Darla go. I only hope her sidekick Robert is gone as well! What a moron!

    ReplyDelete
  30. She was a racist and stupid yelling over Simone or hanging up when you are beaten in an argument is childish. I remember when at Mazzu they put cotton balls on the ethnic centers lawn she said this is not racist why would anybody say it's racist people are idiots if they think that's racist is just playing a prank now look what has happened she was terrible glad she's gone

    ReplyDelete
  31. I will miss Darla. She was the the last person on kmbz not afflicted with the Politically Correct mental illness that exudes from those like Dana and Parks. The only reason that Dana and Parks have higher ratings is like why people slow down to look at a car wreck...morbid curiosity. People tune in to hear what the next totally mind-numbing stupid thing Dana is going to say and how Scott responds to her with his equally stupid alcoholic perspective. I've never heard two people talk so much that know so little. A REAL disservice to Kansas City radio. And very insulting to the intelligence of their listeners. And Scott Parks cops an attitude when people on the text line suggest that they do some research on the topics they talk about BEFORE they talk about it. Low rent radio. To Bad. So Sad. Dana and Parks = Dumber and Dumbest. Good-bye Darla Jaye. You will be sorely missed.

  32. I never liked Darla, and I called it when they split the station, that they simply stuck her on AM until her contract was up, then the axe was going to fall. My biggest issue with her was the insane need to be RIGHT, to the point of if a caller has a salient argument, she would make a quick quip, hang up, and say "Thank you for your call". I want a host that can play with the big boys, and defend their position without picking up their marbles and going home. I see a definite move away from political talk on KMBZ, especially on the FM side, but right wing talk radio is suffering all over the country, sponsor dollars have dried up due to social media boycotts. My biggest beef with Darla's ignorance, was the fact that was not even aware of the broadcast radius of her own station.

  33. Michael Mackie is who should be on talk radio, he's immensely entertaining, I love how he gives drunken Scott Parks no slack whatsoever, he just put him in his place with a flick of his fabulous wrist!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'll miss here. Enjoyed her show

    ReplyDelete
  35. Darla was down to Earth and showed a great sense of humor and wonderful sarcasm. She is quick, intelligent and entertaining. It got to the point that I could even tolerate Robert. I think if given more time, she would have more than proved her worth. Dana Wright reminds me of my ex wife.

  36. Sure gonna miss Mountain and Skislope!

  37. Sure gonna miss Mountain and Ski slope.

  38. Station should have left her in her original time slot, evenings. She just was not what I prefer in the early morning.
She did tend to hang up on callers, just as many do, whether they are local or national. Often a caller is worth listening to IMHO!
Never the less, I wish Darla well.

Too bad no one today has the style of Mike Murphy.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I was feeling a bit of a loss after the holidays when I tuned in and there was no sign of Darla. I took a while to warm up to Darla after Greg Knapp 710, went to evenings and Carson in the morning came on, I jumped ship to 98.1 due to Carson and Jared's ramblings. Why was Jarred so prominent on Carson's show? Anyway Darla was a great conservative, very true to the conservative cause. She is so missed. I'm very unhappy that the is no longer there for me to tune into in the mornings. I wish her the very best of luck. I know she will be fine. She is talented and very intelligent. All good things must come to an end.

  40. Damn Shame to see Darla Jaye Go!
ALSO Damn Shame to see Kansas City Talk Radio cease to exist!
Entercom looks Like they went Liberal anyway, I saw it coming when Mike Shanin left then they replaced him with Dana Wright (Liberal) and now sCott Parks has diminished Talk Radio down to discussions of local deviant activity and Bodily disfunctions.
To add, KC Trends? Really? Zack must be working for free because he would rather filter through textes and take no call ins, he can't handle it.
Can anyone find me a talk radio worthy of listening to?

    ReplyDelete
  41. They need to get rid of those idiots that are on after Dana and Parks. I liked Darla, but never listened after they moved her to a.m.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Please don't send her back here to Huntsville, Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Its really to bad to see any hopes of any real substance in political conversation is gone. I wasn't a fan of the "Jay" team, but that said, after Mike Shanin left she was the next best show on talk radio. Dana & Parks is just horrible. She's like listening to Hillary Clinton... Yuck!! I guess I'll be streaming..

    ReplyDelete
  44. I used to listen when the show was on and enjoyed most of the shows on 98.1. The move and time slot was not in my time to listen since I worked early afternoons to midnight.
