Reality . . . This level of violence is symptomatic of what could be an ongoing drug and gang war throughout Kansas City which has more impact over the local murder rate than politicos are willing to acknowledge.

"According to court records, a group of men forced their way into a home on Monroe Avenue. An adult and seven juveniles, ages 6 to 15, were in the home.
"Police said the intruders fired shots inside the home, beat some juveniles, and fired other shots into a vehicle outside the home, killing Avila. Shots were also fired at a passing vehicle, hitting a driver in the foot. Bullets were also fired into nearby residences."
