TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! WESTPORT HIGH SCHOOL SALE APPROVED AMID CONTROVERSIAL KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS REPURPOSING PLAN!!!

Just a bit of KCPS progress to report tonight amid the increasing realization that Kansas City simply isn't home to as many families as it once was and our school system remains in an overall state of decline and downsizing.

To wit . . .

DESPITE SOME COMMUNITY OBJECTIONS KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS APPROVED THE SALE OF WESTPORT HIGH!!!

In the short term, many describe this move as a win because it unloads yet another property from an already crowded slate . . . However, nearby neighbors and biz have never really agreed about the best use of the facility and argument about this structure led to the ousting of one school board member.

Check the statement . . .

KCPS approves sale of Westport High

Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) has approved the sale of Westport High to Kansas City Sustainable Development Partners, LLC (KCSDP) for the historic redevelopment of the building as a mixed-use project. The redevelopment of Westport High, combined with Westport Middle, which was purchased by KCSDP in January 2014, will be known as Westport Commons: Center for Creativity and Innovation.
For more information about the project, CLICK HERE.

In advance of any rezoning or special use permit hearing, KCSDP will host two public meetings in coordination with the Southmoreland, Old Hyde Park and Hyde Park neighborhood associations. This will give the neighborhoods an opportunity to weigh in as the project progresses. For detailed questions about the site redevelopment, please contact Chip Walsh with KCSDP at 816.808.2956 or efwalsh@att.net.

If you have comments/questions, please contact the Repurposing Initiative Office at repurposing@kcpublicschools.org or 816-418-7725.

  8. Keep reading and waiting. That's what Tony Botello wants. He wants as many people reading his blog as possible. That's not a hard motive.

As with Sanders as with the schools, they have both seen better days and they are both on their way out.

  17. I wouldn't trust the Hyde Park Neighborhood association involvement in ANYTHING. This nothing more then an unethical investment group.
Keep your eyes on Armour and Troost. The Association prez. is going to make a chunk o change on that project through eminent domain. What a Snake. I bet she is going to make cash on the Westport school sale.
