Sadly, here's an update on spying charges from Jackson County connected to a now out-of-biz local tattoo brand:

Tatoo parlor owner charged with privacy invasion

An owner of a Kansas City tattoo parlor that operated on Troost Avenue faces multiple counts of invasion of privacy for spying with video cameras on tenants in his building, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Rodney S. Sanell, 48, faces 42 counts of Invasion of Privacy related to using cameras to observe five victims in states of full or partial nudity without their knowledge.*

According to court records, a 25-year-old woman contacted police after she found a recording device in a strange looking smoke detector inside her apartment in a building at 4101 Troost Ave. Other tenants in the building checked smoke detectors in their apartments and found audio/video recording devices. They reported this to police, who uncovered 11 cameras inside apartments, four in smoke detectors and seven in other locations, including bedrooms and bathrooms. A maintenance man told one victim that the defendant had put the cameras in the apartment. A security camera business reported to police that the defendant had purchased several video security items similar to those found at 41st and Troost. Detectives viewed the videos recovered at the business owned by the defendant and found videos of the victims in various states of undress on multiple days.

Prosecutors requested a $10,000 bond.
