A note on the end of an era in local broadcasting . . . And because media metrics reveal that sports and weather are the main reasons why people bother watching the news at all. Check it:

(Kansas City, Missouri) KSHB-TV, Kansas City's 41 Action News station, announced today that sports director Jack Harry will retire on June 30, 2015. Harry has been covering sports in Kansas City for over 40 years. LEGEND JACK HARRY
“Jack has been a staple in this city for a long time. His knowledge and passion for Kansas City sports will be missed,” said Carrie Hofmann, KSHB news director. In addition, the station announced Frank Boal will assume the role of 41 Action News sports director. Frank has been with KSHB since 2010 after spending the previous 28 years at WDAF-TV. 41 Action News’ Dee Jackson was named weekend sports anchor. Jackson has been part of the 41 Action News sports team since 2013. Both Jackson and Boal begin their new roles on July 1, 2015.

ReplyDeleteWho is this?

ReplyDeleteYour mom knows, go ask her but be sure to knock first.
In the spirit of the highest in broadcast standards for a comparable markets I'm sure the station will be fast on find some early 30's muttering stumblefuck moron to be a sports mouthpiece and local broadcasting will continue it's backwards slide towards high school hobby tv station quality.
ReplyDeleteDang...end of an era.
ReplyDeleteHarry was one of the few sports anchors that kept the local teams feet to the fire while guys like Dave Stewart owned Chiefs season tickets.
Carl Peterson hated the guy and tried to get him fired multiple times when he was at Ch 5. That says a lot to me. because if your an enemy of Carl Peterson then your a friend of mine.
You got to love a guy who calls Kansas the Gayhawks and gets away with it. You got to respect Jack for not being a fanboy.
ReplyDeleteREAL O.G. - those pussies on 610 who talk shit on him have no idea. There's chunks of punks like them in his stool.
ReplyDeleteJack Harry is a class act. Boal is horrible, whenever the Chiefs or Royals lose he is a whiny little baby, it wears one out to watch & listen. I won't watch!
ReplyDeletelove him, hate him, or totally indifferent, you have to give Jack a lot of credit for being on the air in one town for 40+ years, and a career that spanned longer than that. I don't recall from what station he came from, but I do remember when KCMO-TV (KCTV at the time) brought him in to take over for the retiring Bruce Rice.
ReplyDeleteI often disagreed with Jack on some of his Jack's Smack, but i'll give him his due for putting it out there. I was probably one of the very few who enjoyed his half-hour show on 38 the Spot a few years back.
enjoy your retirement, Jack. don't be a stranger on the airwaves either.
best,

Class comment 627.
ReplyDeleteYou clearly don't come here often.
The "MO" for this site is, Tony posts a picture of a local media type who is actually earning money for their efforts. Because Tony gets exactly nothing for sitting on his ass and quoting imaginary "money lines", "must reads", etc. from "insiders", "denizens", etc., he revels in the opportunity that the internet provides by posting pics and entries crapping all over their efforts. If attractive female, all the better.
Then the haters emerge, quite a few of his trolls posts hateful comments, and Tony beams with the attention he is created.
Think of the stages of loss, then being stuck in "anger" because the attention is so rewarding.......
and you have Tony's KC.
and it will be the same tomorrow.
and the next day.
8:35.... you're right, I don't come here often. anymore. and I rarely commented when I did. I got tired of just what you spelled out in your reply. same stuff every day; bash on this, hate on that, "to wit" this, "to wit" that. repetitive and predictable, and the same goes for a lot of comments too.
