Kansas City pro-sports teams have always been more comfortable with the role of underdog and continually disappoint during crunch time. Already this season the Royals look frustrated and uncomfortable playing the favorite.
Here's the latest example:
ESPN: Five Royals ejected after latest incidents vs. Athletics
Fox4KC: Yost, Eiland ejected in latest Royals-Athletics incident
Call it performance anxiety or the hard cruelty of high expectations but Kansas City pro athletes have never been good living up to all of the hype that mainstream media creates. Now that national news outlets are jumping on the bandwagon, the fall is going to be even harder.
Fear not . . . Just when we think they're out of it and have given up all hope . . . The Royals will enjoy a predictable bounce that's also function this tragic trend.
Dealing with pressure is a difficult task and life is full of disappointments, nowhere is this more clear than in the play of the Royals and the travails of their fanboys and paid media advocates who never stop believing even when a clear pattern of Kansas City FAIL has presented itself in nearly every season for a generation.
Still, the point here is that Kansas City doesn't know how to play anything but the underdog and that state of mind is inherently limiting.
Humility, modesty and politeness are overrated Midwestern virtues which are mostly crippling for superstar athletes or just about anybody else who wants to perform at top levels. The "underdog mentality" is just another Kansas City neurosis that limits locals for the benefit of the common good or to enforce the inherent mediocrity of the ruling class.
Also, the last year's fluke season is already starting to fade into memory.
Developing . . .
Or you could have just reminded us that Detroit is looking better this year. That might have saved you some words.
ReplyDeleteAnd another day looking into the septic tank of hate, anger, and misery.
ReplyDeleteCarry on. You make no difference.
Except to you.

ReplyDeletePEOPLE REMEMBER, TONY IS MESSICAN. MESSICAN'S DON'T REALLY KNOW BASEBALL. OTHER HISPANICS DO, BUT NOT MESSICANS.
THE ONLY BASEBALL MESSICANS KNOW ARE THE DODGERS AND YANKEES. ISN'T IT INTERESTING THAT TONY HASEN'T CALLED ZACK GRANKIE AND LOSER OR CALLED SERPREMECY SINCE HE JOINED THE DODGERS?
I BET TONY IS STILL HYPED FOR THE RAIDERS DRAFT SOON. ANOTHER TEAM ONLY MESSICANS FOLLOW.
Ahem, Royals 4, A's 2. Tony's genius for baseball continues.

If Tony didn't have haters, he'd have no fans at all. You shits might not realize it but you're the reason this blog has more traffic than the Pitch now.
