Tonight's Citizens Association talk at the library featured the rare opportunity for the public to ask elected representatives about their tenure . . . Sadly, most people take this opportunity to make mini-speeches and meetup with their political buddies.
Still, having most of the outgoing City Council members in one place was a memorable occasion even if Mayor Pro Tem Sexy Cindy Circo couldn't make it because she's in Milan, Italy.
There were a few highlights but not many, Councilman John Sharp had to patiently endure most of the audience because he's forgotten more about City Hall than most people will ever know.
Council Dude Ed Ford says the Fire Department needs to be cut and the MAST takeover was one of the worst decisions made during his tenure that'll will have long lasting impact.
Moderator Dave Helling spent about a half an hour trying to get Council Lady Jan Marcason to FINALLY admit that the budget is structurally unsound.
And Council Lady Melba Curls is still a very sweet lady and it's kind of like beating a dead horse to say anything mean about her.
However . . .
It's not up to the outgoing politicos to determine their own legacy . . .

As far as the future goes . . . We'll probably never hear from Ed Ford our Council lady Melba again . . .
The potato salad of Council Lady Jan Marcason will live forever.
Councilman Sharp will continue his political activism as a fixture on the Southtown Council and he'll probably have more influence that Scott Taylor will ever enjoy.
Nobody knows how history will judge any of us but at the end of 8 year terms for all of these Council Members the denizens of this library event seemed mostly focused on the future.

ReplyDeleteAll of them should have said something about how they voted for 100 million dollars for the toy train. How they agreed to rig the election so only 500 people got to vote on something that the entire city citizens will have to pay for years to come.

Circo is on her farewell tour. Her Quid Pro Quo job with KCP&L was well earned and you will pay the price for her efforts to secure it in the near future. At least the people who did the real work got to go to Milan too.
ReplyDeleteJan better hope the tater salad is what they remember instead of the money she gave to B&V for studies, etc instead of actual work. If she gets a job there an investigation should take place.
Melba didn't hurt anyone while she occupied the office so compared to others she at least didn't do harm. I am thankful for that but hoped for better.
Ed Ford is a good councilman but often hogtied by Mayor's in an effort to please them or play politics. He will be back. He has served with Cleaver, Barnes, Funkhouser, and Sly. He will come back but there is no chance he will serve with Taylor, Wagner, Circo, Glover or Marcason as Mayor.
