THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! REMEMBERING THE KANSAS CITY GOLDEN AGE OF WDAF WEATHERMAN DAN HENRY!!!
Legendary Kansas City weatherman Dan Henry passed away today, he was 89 years old.
Mr. Henry was a top caliber broadcaster for a more civilized age in Kansas City media.
Generations of local residents were dedicated to watching Mr. Henry deliver the weather without any of the panic or sensationalism that marks today's newscasts. Better still, he eschewed the media "celebrity" role and remained approachable and down to earth even during the 80s media explosion toward the end of his career.
The newscycle golden age of Kansas City broadcasters like Dan Henry has been over for quite some time and today we're met mostly with panic, constant broadcast interruptions and media branding endeavors on every front.
Strangely, all of the sci-fi weather stats still don't reflect the reality on local streets where an embattled Mayoral administration still FAILS when it comes to snow removal and street maintenance.
Amid today's deluge dozens accidents ensued thanks to the negligence of City Hall and our elected leaders but our newsies are far too timid and more focused on moving the next higher paying gig in a bigger market . . . So they wouldn't dare call our a local politico and our old and busted streets.
One of the many differences between Dan Henry and today's broadcasters is that people knew was dedicated to Kansas City and not just his career.
But I digress . . .
Dan Henry was one of the finest Kansas City hometown broadcasters and his legacy of community involvement and understated media stature reminds us of a better time in our local media history.
And so, tonight's playlist is dedicated to the memory of Dan Henry.
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.
but could he do the centipede like Katie? I doubt it. But then again maybe not.
ReplyDeleteDan was a great man and had many fans and close friends during his career here in Kansas City. Farewell my friend till we meet again.
ReplyDeleteHe said it would be like this.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Tony. Dan was a good guy.
ReplyDeleteOne of the few you could depend on an accurate weather forecast from. And without the aid of computer models.
ReplyDeleteDan was a class presenter. Another great is Fred Broski who was literally known all over the country for the advertising work he did.
ReplyDeleteThey got the streetcar line cleared today and construction going. Safe to assume that was the first priority.
ReplyDeleteMy dad drove a 1979 Mustang coup without AC and he had one of those accordion cardboard windshield visors that was supposed to keep your parked car cool in the summer. It was a promotional item with a giant picture of Dan Henry and it said "Dan Henry said it would be like this. "
ReplyDeleteHe used it until the cardboard was literally ripping to shreds from being folded and unfolded so many times. Like, at least until 1996 or so.
"safe and fun Saturday night"
ReplyDeleteLMAO!
Holy shit Batman, Hearne will have someone to trash and slander for days on in now. And Glazer will be along saying how he got Jack his start on TV and how back in his gold badge days he would party and do coke with Dan.
ReplyDeleteMy business would be bankrupt if I depended on these local doofus's on TV these days.
ReplyDeleteWith the exception of Joe Lauria. Dan always nailed it also.
First Spock, Then Mayor Sly and when they came for Dan Henry there was no one left in the galaxy.
ReplyDeleteHe was a good one!
ReplyDeleteCONDENSED VERSION
ReplyDelete- Somebody died.
- I liked him.
- I hate everything about where I live with every fiber of my being and blame others constantly and think my street ought to be snowfree moments after every snowfall but can offer no alternatives to make it better not to mention my own life and just because I'm always wrong about Mike Sanders doesn't mean I'm not going to be right the next time and everything was better back in the day and you kids get off my lawn and
Yes,kc still sucks donkey dicks.
ReplyDeleteDan henry was a good guy.
There's your condensed version.
Nice shared memories about old-school weatherman Dan Henry!!
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show you, this blog's douchebag readers do have respect for hard-working humble folks.

PLAYLIST REVIEW:
ReplyDelete10,000 Maniacs with Natalie Merchant take the crown tonight.................but, that petite brunette fronting the Bangles caused some major snow melt in my boxers!
Dan Henry was a class act. Today's local "celebrities" could learn a thing or two from him.
ReplyDeleteId fuck that Julie Broski in the ass and cum all over her tits, though.
ReplyDelete2 weather dudes down, rest in peace Don Harmon and now Dan, death sucks but it will visit all of us one day!!
ReplyDelete11:25 you would probably fuck your own daughter you sick fuck!!!
ReplyDelete8:57, obviously happy hour kicked your ass!!!
ReplyDeleteStill not one Irishman gave two fucks when Peter O'Toole died. Only proves there are no Irishmen living in Kansas City and the frauds are just sucking up tax dollars living on the Homeland Security dole.
ReplyDeleteDan was the man. God Bless his soul.
ReplyDeleteDan was also a member of "The Merry Mugs" which was an award winning Barbershop Quartet. He was a really nice man and a man of integrity.
