"Earlier in the day, a police source said Schweich had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"The police source said Schweich's wife was in another room of their house when she heard her husband making phone calls, followed by a single gunshot."

A strange passage about GOP tensions: "Schweich was also involved earlier this week in a bizarre episode featuring the newly elected chairman of the state GOP John Hancock. According to the website PoliticoMO, Hancock flew to Jefferson City Monday to confront Schweich, who he believed was preparing to level unflattering and unspecific allegations against him. The meeting never occurred, according to the report."

Politicos from across party lines are sending condolences while this kind of story skeeves out the general public that continues not to vote.
