TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! BUSTED!!! HARRAH'S KANSAS CITY FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY!!!

Because our blog community is doing all the work for everbody today...

FIRST WORD IN KANSAS CITY RIGHT NOW...HARRAH'S IS BUSTED!!!

Here's first featured word from AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS...

Harrah's North Kansas City is in Chapter 11

So the fact that Harrah's NKC is now in Chapter 11 earns barely a mention in the KC Business Journal.

Caesars Entertainment Operating Co., which owns Harrah's North Kansas City, announced Thursday that it filed for bankruptcy protection because of its $18.4 billion debt, The Associated Press reports. It's unclear how the filing will affect Harrah's North Kansas City.

Of course, that compares to this extensive coverage in the KC Star: Nada. Zip. Zilch. Google "harrahs kansas city bankruptcy" and you only get the two items above.

Well, they only employ 800 people so I can see where the Star would miss them while rewriting 25 MLK day stories from last year.

Meanwhile, the word on the street is that some local media vendors, printers and other suppliers to whom the giant casino was a giant gravy train could be out 10s of thousands as Harrah's "reorganizes," and might need to file bankruptcy themselves. No word on what this means for the millions that Harrah's pays to NKC to fund cops and streets.

Likewise, no word if anyone in the media is even working on the story.

  2. 18.4 Billion?

Come on wouldn't smart people start doing something after the first billion? I bet all the big wigs in the company got their bonuses this past year.

  3. Good riddance. Fucking shit hole casinos never belonged here in the first place, and they were shoved down our throats, even when we voted no, more than once.

  4. 713 ??? How the hell were they shoved down our throats when they were passed by a public referendum in 1994. You either weren't here or weren't alive at the time. Geez, get it right. As for the economic impact, take a look at what the Harrah's NKC tax money built on Armour Road. That hulking community center is all. Realistically, the NKC casino won't close given the number of gaming operations in Vegas or Jersey that will pick it up cheap. Additionally, Chapter 11 doesn't mean closure, it means re-organization. A trustee will be appointed and parcels of the company could be sold off to pay down debt. The doom and gloom forecasted isn't likely to happen. They may cut back a little in specific areas but for the most part, it'll be business as usual at Harrah's.

  5. To bad wasn't someplace worthless like the Star, Arrowhead, Stanford Comedy or OK Joes you know some dump that don't matter.

  6. Got to agree with SD, this sounds like an inside job and a heist from the owners.

Too bad KC people are going to have to lose their jobs for this highway robbery.

  7. Taxpayers should think twice about the gaming industry, it's risky!

  8. Really old news. KMBZ was reporting this last week and the bankruptcy filing has been expected since last year.

  9. It happened today, they've been hurting for awhile. Now it's a done deal TODAY.

  12. It wouldnt be the northland if it wasnt fake boats full of idiots mesmerized by bells and flashing lights dumping their money in a hole. Wait.. is Harrahs run by the KC guvmnt??

  13. How many tax incentives did they receive? Nice. Fail to pay local taxes, spend our tax dollars, and then bail. Nice.

  14. Nothing on the KMBZ site about it. They are usually a day behind the Star which means 2-3 days after you read about it somewhere else on the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I doubt Harrah's will go anywhere. They might get a new sign with someone else's name on it. The big issue is that regardless, everyone they currently owe money to may be screwed.

I didn't see it on The Star, I read about it here. And I didn't have to pay a subscription. LOL!

  22. A bunch of national AP stories with no local reference to the NKC casino or how this might affect the 800 jobs or local creditors? So the Star was handed a wire story and was too lazy to add a sentence that the NKC casino was part of the filing. Perhaps because they would then have to say that they were too lazy or lacked someone not editing a MLK story or waiting for another Sly presser to make a phone call or two.

The PR boobs always say everyone will be paid yet it also says creditors are not on board with the "settlement." Fact is, this is a huge LOCAL story that no one locally has done shit with.

  23. Didnt see that coming

  24. The Star exists to further the Progressive Narrative, NOT to break news.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Really..? How pitiful.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i read the star every day and I DID NOT see this story, don't know where they hid it. It should be on the front page and NOT the entertainment section.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's because the probably didn't run it. Search the Star's site and it does not show.

The link caesar's site:kansascity.com has nothing to do with what actually appears in the paper. In fact, change the "Kansas City" to "Kansas" (Wichita) or "Dispatch" (Columbus Ohio) or "SunTimes" (Chicago) and see what happens.

Looking at the SunTimes site and seeing all the links with the same story, makes me wonder if that is simply a way to see who the originator (perhaps the Sun Times) sent it to.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I suppose Steve Paul at The Star will say that Harrah's is a vital piece of KC history that should be preserved like a diamond strewn on the prairie!

    ReplyDelete
  29. And chuck exists to further promote white criminals who continue to profit from their crimes while bad mouthing and downtrodden the black race the racist prick

  30. If you want to gauge the economics of a city or state, all you need to do is see how many u-hauls are being rented that are leaving the state compared to how many are coming in.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Casinos go broke when the locals are too poor to gamble much. Your average local's income has been declining for 30 years ... that is, for the ones who have been steadily employed. Say goodbye to casinos? Better worry more about saying goodbye to the middle class. The casinos are still here at the moment. The middle class already is mostly gone.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't care who reported it first. What do we do now? There are a ton of people who rely on this place to make a living. We need the state of Missouri to stop restricting our casinos too much. It's time to let business free if we don't want it all to move to Kansas.

  33. Years ago, the Star had Rick Alm write about this kind of stuff. But when superstar Hoopz arrived, Rick got the boot.

    1. How fucking sad. Hoopz is perhaps the most worthless "reporter." Gee, I wonder how she keeps her job?

  34. A bunch of criminals frequent the casinos anyway. They can get in and lose they're stolen or drug earnings without showing any ID.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Caesars may be more screwed than just a simple reorganization. They were handed a bad ruling (for them) yesterday by a federal judge that the transfer of their "good" assets into an entity that their junior creditors couldn't touch last August was illegal. My guess is that this will be a death-blow to the reorganization effort and they will likely be sold in pieces.

  36. And once again, we learn important news on a local blog from informed readers instead of our paid local news media
