Photo hottie Jessica Burciaga reminds us that we need to pay just a bit of tribute to the grassroots candidates who are running in the upcoming city council election.
To wit . . .
THERE'S NO BETTER WAY TO CELEBRATE GRASSROOTS CANDIDATES THEN SHARE A BIT OF INFO ABOUT THEIR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS!!!
Let's define terms: "Grassroots" is a word that a lot of people like to throw around but what it means to our blog community is a strong neighborhood connection without the backing of established political, corporate or financial interests.
More than most others, these candidates seem to fit the bill and here's how they're going to try and raise cash to fight the power and/or status quo:
Rev. Stephan "Flash" Gordon has a fundraiser January 22,2015 @ Marriott downtown from 5-8
Rev. Gordon is facing Quinton Lucas, among other contenders in the 3rd District At-Large contest. Mr. Lucas already has secured close to $50K and counting in his fundraising efforts along with endorsements from nearly every important 3rd District organization.
Will Fiscal Conservatives Open Their Wallets For Terrence Nash???
Mr. Nash is up against tough competition as Henry Klein is a successful biz dude and Rep. Kevin McManus has more than $150K in campaign coffers that he's getting ready to switch around. The only hope Mr. Nash has is letting people know that he could be the only real fiscal conservative with an operational knowledge of the city hall budget who is running for council.
Rachel Riley's 3rd District Run Is Inspiring
Ms. Riley is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet and a voice that should be heard in this council election. She'd never use this as part of her campaign but it's worth noting that TKC's first conversation with Ms. Riley involved her frustration with the powers that be in the aftermath of the violent death of a loved one. This survivor of deadly Kansas City violence is a strident advocate for the 3rd District and it would be shame if voters weren't at least allowed to hear what she has to say.
Of course, there are more candidates with community connections and we'll talk about them later. But for now, these grassroots Kansas City candidates represent an important look at neighborhood leaders hoping to compete in Kansas City's political game without the help of power players.

Candidate for 5th District At-Large

Good luck for having the balls to put it on the line Dennis.
ReplyDeleteNot sure this is the crowd you want to be campaigning to. Lots of haters of all things. If you have a female in your family, for the love of God, don't let Tony take a picture of them.
Any publicity is good publicity. Just ask Kathryn Shields.
ReplyDeletetrue dat.
ReplyDeleteHi dennis already I don't like you because you're a fucking SPAMMER.
ReplyDeleteNot only does Nash have a professional's knowledge of the city budget, he has real experience (as an outsider) in city affairs. His opponents in the race are lacking there. McManus especially will no doubt be a tool of the interests sucking on the teet of public money.
ReplyDeleteI've lived and been active in SKC for over 20 years and know something about these guys.
ReplyDeleteHenry Klein is a nice guy but hasn't really been involved in city issues. McManus certainly hasn't been involved in much of anything. Even at his town hall meeting he let Jason Holsman take over. He also promised to represent the people in Jeff City and now just a few months later he reneges on that promise? Nash has been involved in community issues for as long as I can remember. He's an outsider in that he isn't part of the political scene but he certainly knows what's going on. He even routinely studies the city budgets!
Terrence Nash = Tea Bag Trash
ReplyDeleteHe knows about as much about "budgets" as Sam Brownback, and his only support will be the "angry white entitlement" crowd, aging nebulously malcontent people of privelege and reactionary retard like the commentariat if this blog (the very few who actually reside in KCMO).
The new 6th's most important voting block is Brookside and Waldo, and the anti-progress league is a GROSS minority here. Nash's tea-bag views are well known and widely ridicules outside of the 10% streetcar-haters and the pat Touhey set.
Get ready for the real sw corridor to rear it's head, you clown.
Riley would be hella good except one of the black established orgs will scoop her up (if they haven't already) or boot her out. We need some black folks - hell, so folks - who can think for themselves.
ReplyDeleteOh that is what we need, more Negros in all levels of government.
ReplyDeleteWow 11:50! Have you been listening to John Sharp? That's one of the many lies he's been spreading about Nash. In fact, it couldn't be farther from the truth.
ReplyDeleteBlah Blah Blah! Same old Kansas City shit - different day.
ReplyDeleteToo late, 2:42! Terrence has already opened his mouth in public too much to put the genie back in the bottle...
ReplyDeleteWe know who he is when he thought no one was paying attention except other fringers like Sam abadir and pay-me pat Touhey. Ward parkway isn't brookside, kiddo.
Thats nappy headed if I ever saw one.
ReplyDeleteMs. Riley, like the other candidates may be a very nice person. In fact, I met Quinton and have always liked Dee Evans, and I even like the Reed kid - they're all nice. Unfortunately, this isn't high school. Kansas City is a major city, with major opportunities and major issues. I live in the 3rd district, but unless the people that really RUN this City has a modicum of respect for the person in the district, we will remain a joke in this district. Quinton will still be a nigga, BUT Lucas has lived the same life as my children did in this district - mine, unfortunately, didn't get out. This young man did, and while he will never be a rich white man, they will let him through their doors, not because he's nice, but because he understands them. Because he knows struggle, he will fight for this district. I believe in his boy!
ReplyDeleteNash is a Democrat. John Sharp and his hired goons are liars.
ReplyDeleteGoons?
ReplyDeleteIf he's a streetcar hater, then good, I'll vote for him. Thanks for letting me know.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Klein at any city council meetings. McManus has shown up a couple of times. Nash has been watching the way that money is spent. He is an accountant. He attends the meetings and he gives good advice regardless of which side he is on. He has done a lot for south Kansas City, by calling Sharp on his bullshit. Sharp will definitely start up the lie machine he has always relied on to deliver the goods for the big boys.
