The holiday season has the Kansas City media repeating government propaganda without a single critical voice to note an obvious and simple financial fact of life.
To wit . . .
A MEANINGLESS GOVERNMENT DESIGNATION WON'T DO MUCH TO BOOST THE HORRIBLY BORING WWI LIBERTY MEMORIAL MUSEUM THAT WILL ALWAYS LOSE MONEY FOR KANSAS CITY!!!
This isn't the worst thing . . . The memorial is a great addition to Kansas City's skyline, a piece of history and something that makes this town better . . . But it will always lose cash and cost an increasing amount to maintain. Any other estimation of the cost/benefit of this monument is simply hype put together by politicos looking for a bit of happy news.
Again, none of this to say that the iconic structure isn't worth it but let's not lie to the public about the real cost in much way the media accepts falsehoods about Sprint Center profits or Union Station deception and transition into private party/office space initially funded by taxpayer cash . . .
Anyhoo . . . Here's the falsehood put forth by media who doesn't really care about the long-term fiscal stability of this town: WWI Museum expecting boost from designation
Similarly . . . WWI soldiers expected glory promised by their leaders but a great many of them simply ended up dead in a ditch in a war that served absolutely no real purpose but to pave the way for future conflict.
And so . . . At the very least Kansas City's WWI museum and monument has fulfilled its legacy and reminded us that politicos will ALWAYS lead an unwitting public to the slaughter if it suits their purposes.
Developing . . .
Tony, have you actually ever been there?
ReplyDeleteIf for no other reason, that it was, without a doubt, the most senseless, ridiculous, waste of a war in history, it deserves to be remembered.
It is a first class exhibition, the very best exhibition of artifacts and history from that same senseless war.
A living testimony to "a fantasy and a trick of fame".
We should never forget how stupid we were.
chuck every post of yours reminds me how stupid this country still is.
DeleteActually, we forgot how stupid we were a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteExhibits A and B?:
Iraq and Afghanistan.
And almost forgot Vietnam.
The museum is great but ALL museums lose money. The question is who should subsidize them? It should be civic leaders and foundations not cities, counties or states.

ReplyDelete"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."

Would be a great location to hold War Crimes Tribunal and jail all the criminals, even if their 90, like Henry Kissinger
