2015 You Made It!

Almost everyone reading this was around for the last century. The 1900's. Have things improved or not? Is being alive today better than the last century we all lived in say the last few decades.

Being a baby boomer, of course I thought the 60's-90's were great times in America compared to today. There seemed to be less bills to pay, less local violence, DUI"s were not murder raps and rock and roll still was king. We had real movie stars and TV seemed much better with its content, no reality shows yet. Cars were cooler and gas was cheaper, well so was most everything.
There were restaurants that were actually owned operated by local folks and not everything was a national chain or fast food, though we had those as well. There were people going out often to nightclubs, some actually had lines on the weekends. Until Hip Hop and Rap got huge, a shooting at the club was rare. In Kansas City the Plaza was off the chart with night spots and fun. Today its quiet to say the least. Westport was new and crazy with young people out for a good time. Of course like now we were always being told that war with someone could end in a nuclear attack and we had many enemies and countless military actions. Same as today.

The biggest change today from the end of the 1900's, has to be the computer age. That and tightening of young people with great ideas not being able to get bank loans to start their own business, unless someone co signs or they have the equity for the loan. Not usually the case. Young people trying to buy a home has gotten nearly out of reach for most as well.

The computer age has taken us by storm. It has downsized the job force, left us with no real music business, is slowly destroying the film industry, but you can keep with who is getting divorced,Kim,Soldier Boy and a ton of social gossip. You can hate on people you don't know online daily with comments. Boy there are a ship full of games to play on your smart phone. Everyone is a star on youtube. Yep its a new world. Sure the computer age has helped solve many issues in medicine and other important areas, no question. Young people don't go out as much, not nearly as much. They meet the opposite sex online with facebook, apps that introduce any age singles to each other. Is that a good thing? Maybe.

The racial divide has grown and nobody has an answer as to how to fix it. Marijuana is on the verge of being legal everywhere, well it might take years for that to happen in Kansas though. Our prisons are over crowded and there are just too many single moms and young people with no parents and little education.

So is the world better today? Is the future bright? We live longer but does life for most folks have the quality it once enjoyed. For the chosen few yes, but for most I don't see that coming.

Well we all made it this far. Happy 2015.
