Just a quick tidbit regarding the Kansas City NYE taxi scene . . . Looks like the debate betwixt Yellow Cab & ride-shares will continue.
Here's a bit of trend-spotting press: Be prepared for Uber 'surge pricing' on NYE
A much better report . . .
LA Times: It's nearly New Year's Eve, and Uber will face the music on surge pricing again
Here's a quote on the topic from KC Transportation Group honcho Bill George . . .
"We're working with several of our larger customers (like One Block South, Prairiefire) to use our SuperShuttle fleet to support the regular taxi fleet. This will free up 40-50 additional cabs.
"We also have staff located at several of the districts and hotels to assist with loading and demand.
"Regardless of how many cars we have out, there is always that crunch period between 12:20-1:00 AM where everyone wants a car.
"We don't surge price (which in effect is auctioning rides off to the highest bidder). "
Meanwhile . . . Our Friend John T. provides a Kansas City Taxicab PSA to guide drunkards through the night.
Either way . . . Don't expect to get a cab around midnight and remember that so much talk about "silicon prairie" and "creative class" support is nice until it's time to align with old school political interests that continue to dominate City Hall and local streets.
More in a bit . . .
Head on over and look at oil prices to see how the free market can work. they say you can't drill to lower prices. well drill baby drill.
ReplyDeletethey say we can't choose a cab for ourselves. that we need a regulated monopoly. well between 1220-1a when i want a ride home, i'll fork out what i have to to get a ride when i want it. wait for yellow? i think not.
Shale crapped out and the Saudi's crapped out if that's what you mean by drill baby drill. Or is this the preemptive Palin/Nugent Call Of The Wild?
ReplyDeleteLike the traditional cabbies never stiff anyone? Bullshit!
