Kansas City Eco-Devo pipe dreams are popping up in the local suburbs from politicos who obviously don't read much about the continued problems regarding the project OR think they can do subsidized development better.
Take a look . . .
KCUR: Roeland Park Cave Redevelopment Concept Presented To City Council
More local eco-devo high hopes:
"At a city council meeting earlier this month, Roeland Park mayor Joel Marquardt showed off conceptual drawings that would change the limestone cave formation into a hub for restaurants and bars. The concept is similar in design to Kansas City’s Power & Light District."
Strangely enough, I'm not sure racial division, MILLIONS our of the general fund every year and a gathering spot for d-bags is worth the risk. Then again, this idea only signals more competition for entertainment offerings in KC proper as suburbanite elected officials look to gamble on entertainment projects too.
Developing . . .
Pipe dream.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the NIGGERS would find a way to fuck this up too...
ReplyDeletePipe dreams of developers end up being funded by taxpayer money and public debt about every day of the year.
ReplyDeleteWho cares how off-the-wall and idea is or how it goes off the cliff after it's built.
The developers, real estate, construction companies, and bond attorneys are already long gone and working on convincing clueless elected folks how the THE NEXT BIG THING is going to be.
How's the KCMO downtown hotel project coming? What about Kemper?
As long as you elect people who think their role is to subsidize folks to build things instead of working to provide the best local government services for residents and businesses they can, nothing's going to change.
They want it for a queer hangout to go with their new queer law.
ReplyDeleteNothing will be built....but, oh, there WILL be feasibility studies, and those bad boys aren't cheap.
ReplyDeletePeople wont go to Roeland Park for that.
ReplyDeleteThis is just insane. The cost to retrofit would be huge and nobody but a bunch of sad old men and 22 year olds go to bars nowadays.
ReplyDeleteThese caves were not designed for large groups so they will have to be retrofitted with ventilation systems.
They weren't designed for the electrical load of a club or bar so the electrics, drilled through rock, will have to be redone.
The caves are 60 degrees inside year round so you will have to expend heating energy 365 days a year to get it to 72.
Meanwhile...a strip mall built on an insanely fertile, flat and arable former farmstead in Johnson county continues to hemorrhage public money but none of the Tonys Johnson County city-hating trolls seem to notice because...ERMAHGOD! Everybody in the world wants to be in sojoco, donchaknow?
ReplyDeletego sober up 12:48
ReplyDeleteToo many mexicans! It would never work.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bold proposal. I've met Mr. Marquardt and he is an interesting guy with a lot of great ideas. My gut tells me that this isn't right for Roeland Park, and if it ever were constructed, it would peel even MORE business away from the already floundering P&L. One thing I *will* say is that right now, there probably aren't too many people in the KC area that go to Roeland Park on purpose, despite some of their great public art sculptures. Mr. Marquardt is hoping to attract more outside visitors with this plan, but how does it affect our region? That is what I would be considering.
