At the outset of the shopping season one local question should take priority among our Kansas City economic discourse.
Check it:
IS THE KANSAS CITY "BUY LOCAL" TREND SIMPLY A BIT OF HOLIDAY HYPE OR DOES IT GUIDE LOCALS TO SUPPORT COWTOWN COMMERCE?!!?
Believe it or not, our blog community supports the Buy Local Trend because media denizens need to be reminded that there's an option other than supporting the status quo and good manufactured by Chinese toddlers.
However . . .
We have a sneaking suspicion that the Buy Local message isn't resonating among a huge swath of consumers that won't be persuaded to leave the box stores.
How do we improve this tragic trend???
Does "buy local" just encourage KC biz mediocrity???
Let's face it: Are we refusing to acknowledge that some things just aren't made locally???
You decide this commerce question as this season of spending also hosts a great deal of political rhetoric.
Developing . . .
How do you buy local, if local does not have what you want?.
ReplyDeleteDoes buying local mean you're expected to pay 30 to 60 dollar or more for an an identical item from a local?
I do support some mom and pop local businesses that are not chain stores only because they charge a fair price. As for a chain stores I don't look at that as a local business.
Buy local, support hipsters.
ReplyDeleteNo thanks.
"Does "buy local" just encourage KC biz mediocrity?"
ReplyDeleteYep.
BUY LOCAL = in one ear and out the other
ReplyDeleteWho is the biggest retailer in the country? WalMart
Even if you're shopping high-end at Neiman, etc., you're not buying local merchandise.
American Express started their Buy Local/Buy At Small Businesses promotion several years ago for the positive PR response. They knew it was a gimmick.
Out here in the burbs were are having a silent boycott. We aren't buying shit in some punk as town that taxes, builds toy trains, pisses away tax dollars, has an earnings tax, takes kickbacks from the tow truck industry, puts up crooked red light cams and screws and pick pockets everyone they can get their hands on. Fuck Kansas City. We've got stores outside the city we can deal with and not worry about damn parking tickets.
ReplyDelete9:15 FTW
ReplyDeletefuck some $30 hipster screenprinted american apparel shirt with a ripped off KC Royals logo on it.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to actually buy from Kansas City go and get a Garmin and tape a hallmark card to it.
