TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! DONE DEAL: CHECK THE PLAN ALREADY UNDERWAY TO TEAR DOWN KEMPER ARENA AND PAY FOR AMERICAN ROYAL REDUX!!!

We told you so . . . Remember at the outset of the year our blog community put informed the public about the tragic Kemper Arena plan, the threat to move out of KCMO and how this thing was pretty much a conspiracy among the monied/political elite.

And now it has all come to pass.

To wit . . .

THE MOST KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS REVEAL THE START OF THE CITY HALL EFFORT TO REWARD MARINER & CO. WITH SWEET KEMPER ARENA HELP AND AMERICAN ROYAL TAX BREAK CASH!!!

This one was hidden from the docket but now, by law, they couldn't keep it secret anymore . . . THE MOST AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS revealed it to us:

Sponsored by Council Dudes Taylor and Ford . . .

140949 - Directing the City Manager to enter into a negotiation process with the American Royal Association to structure a public-private partnership for redevelopment of the American Royal complex and demolition of Kemper Arena, a draft plan of finance and a plan to divest the City of its current and future capital maintenance and lease obligations for both Kemper Arena and the American Royal complex facilities for consideration by the City Council.

All the rest is simply justification now that the city has started moving despite community outcry.

Noted FIRST on TKC thanks to AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS. Natch.

  6. Umm, this City meeting and ordinance has had its own Facebook event page as "Joint Council Committee Hearing on Kemper Demolition" since Nov 7. People have been signing up to attend and express their opinion for a while. I actually thought TKC had the juice on this discussion at one point.

Looks like KC is just going to get steamrolled again. Consultants will outnumber voters.

Thank you TKC for linking the legislation. More people need to know about this.

  8. Again, I ask: Where is the Star on this, it looks like the whole city is standing up against Sly James and they are just reporting his press releases!

  9. the truth is that we don't need to build ANY facilities. They have Hale arena, which they demanded got rebuilt 10 years ago. We have a large multipurpose with sprint. we have a small multipurpose with independence events center. we have a large outdoor venue that could host activities in arrowhead and kansas speedway (both would be great for the bbq cookoff).

Since the city appears unwilling to even spend 600k a year keeping Kemper alive they should just bulldoze it and sell the land.

  11. Well KC, It sounds like you'll be getting the American Royal Nine Yards.

  12. For $20 million plus a million dollars a year, time to pull the plug and let the Royal go. After 100 years they should of had some money in the bank and set out on their own instead of taking taxpayers money.

  13. Scott and Ed, you sold us out.
