As the streetcar continues to destroy almost everything in its path, we're hearing word of politicos continuing to bend local laws to the breaking point at the behest of the toy train.
In Kansas City there is a sign ordinance that was hotly debated among neighborhood activists and approved by many Council members currently taking up space @ City Hall. Today that bit of legislation was pretty much voided by the Council without much discussion.
To wit . . .
OUTLAWED DIGITAL SIGNS ARE SOON TO BLIGHT DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY IN SERVICE OF THE TOY TRAIN!!!
Word from voters:
"The voters have spoken; we do not want the streetcar. The City is condemning a digital billboard at 20th & Main to get rid of it. The Downtown streetscape will be marred by ugly overhead electric line. And now the City wants to change the rules to allow numerous digital advertising signs along the streetcar route. Something does not add up!"
The Kansas City sign ordinance has been mostly meaningless but attempted to curb so much local visual pollution . . . Let's not even talk about that fact that if downtown was really "a neighborhood" like some supporters claim - This wouldn't pass . . . Now this special dispensation on behalf of the toy train rammed through committee this morning SHOULD open things up for more marketers to void the KC sign ordinance or sue KCMO over selective enforcement.
Developing . . .
The signs will carry the standard for MENSA boy.
ReplyDeletePat Klein is a fucking idiot! Dealing with the City... nothing ever adds up! Thats why people who would otherwise consider living here move to Johnson County.
ReplyDeleteHas to make lawyers for Lamar Advertising very happy. City is trying condemn their billboard claiming it is blighted and at same time making exceptions to City ordnances to accommodate numerous digital billboards for the trolley.
