Amid so much Kansas City sports hysteria, there's a horrific trend has developed while mainstream newsies are busy providing comprehensive coverage of every facet of the World Series.

TWO AFRICAN-AMERICAN FEMALE CHILDREN HAVE BEEN GUNNED DOWN IN THE KANSAS CITY AREA AND THIS FACT OF LIFE DOESN'T GET HALF AS MUCH MEDIA TIME AS LOCAL SPORTS COVERAGE!!!
Even last night, a shooting spree and neighborhood gun fight that encompassed two city blocks of KCK AND RESULTED IN THE KILLING OF A 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL earned less than 1/12th the media time devoted to the Royals shutout defeat and the Kansas City Chiefs win. Think about the so-called "economic impact" of the World Series and then juxtapose that total with the paltry $21K that community organizers are struggling to offer for information in the recent Angel Hooper murder.

SHAME ON KANSAS CITY FOR FOCUSING SO MUCH TIME AND RESOURCES ON THESE SILLY MEDIOCRE SPORTING EVENTS WHILE THIS TOWN STRUGGLES TO COPE WITH TWO AFRICAN-AMERICAN GIRLS KILLED IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS!!!
There are a lot of good people working in local media and it's not all their fault . . . The sports news domination is dictated by marketing interests and station executives NOT news directors or journalists. In reality, the advertising interest should remind us that even the mainstream news is a reflection of a focus on the bottom line and not anything REALLY happening in our community.
But make no mistake:
TWO LITTLE AFRICAN-AMERICAN GIRLS VIOLENTLY KILLED IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS IS KANSAS CITY'S GREATEST SHAME AND IT'S FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE LITANY OF COVERAGE DEDICATED TO THE DISCRETIONARY INCOME OF SUBURBANITES WATCHING THE WORLD SERIES!!!
Right now anti-crime activist Alonzo Washington is working to have the Royals honor and pay tribute to the two girls who have died in the shadow of the World Series. He hasn't had much luck thus far.

Often times, what we see on TV news are events so unusual that the public will gawk at the oddity. Think ebola or playoff game after 29 year drought. Unfortunately, it is getting to the point where horrendous black crime is no longer outrageous enough to pique the public's curiosity. This is sad and unfortunate that even murdered children are no more than a gloss over beat crime report. The only questions that remain are who's fault is this and what can be done to correct it. And I'm afraid we are not brave enough to discuss these questions honestly.
