Kansas City Union Station Living History App

Here's a bit of Kansas City social media marketing tech from VML.

The commercial is pretty cool and makes it seems like a trip to Kansas City's Union Station might be worthwhile. Whereas the reality is: It's mostly office space in a building that wouldn't exist without bi-state taxpayer help and a slew of broken promises.

Take a look:

Media deets: "Living History is an augmented reality, storytelling app experience that explores the rich history of the building and celebrates the centennial of Union Station Kansas City. Bring the past alive with an immersive and interactive reenactment of historical events and celebrity encounters from Union Station’s 100-year history.

Watch a young Walt Disney behind the camera, Earnest Hemingway come to the aide of a fallen man or experience the 1933 Kansas City Massacre from two unique angles. With a total of 11 unique locations, all experiences allow you to capture photographs of the event as it unfolds in front of you or have friends and family step into the scene to share with your friends on social media."

  1. Didn't the Monkeys do a song about Union Station called "Last Train to Darksville"?

And yet Tony, I'm so appreciative it was saved. It's a beautiful building and whether you like it or not, it's here to stay. Imagine the gaping hole in our city's built fabric to say nothing of our connection to our history if we had turned away from the opportunity to save it. That would have been a colossal and irreversible failure to act. Thank goodness courageous people overcame naysayers such as yourself back then.

  3. Today I stand in Science City and ponder history. Just how snockered did a past mayor have to be to take a perfectly good train station and match it up with some kind of overblown, overpriced, kids science display.

  4. I never understood the fascination with saving a train station but now that we've done it hey it gets some use. It bleeds a bit of money but not that much.

All that would have happened if they would have knocked it down would have been some TIF bullshit and a new hotel or something.

  5. Union Station, time for the wrecking ball.

George Guestello can cross dress at Bazookas and get his first pay for work job. Wait, who would hire him ?

Missie B's or UMKC. Both heavy into "
    gay culture".

  6. Turn it into a Roaring 20's themed casino with dining and clubbing and lease to the developer who makes the transition.
