A quick look at afternoon discussion of Kansas City fiscal policy makes us realize that local government under the current Administration exists mostly to provide local corporations with bennies.

KC Biz Journal: PIEA debates abatement level for $78M Plaza office tower
Deets:
"The level of property tax abatement that should be granted for a proposed Country Club Plaza office tower was debated during the first Planned Industrial Expansion Authority board meeting attended by three new members appointed by Mayor Sly James earlier this month.
A vote on the abatement is being delayed pending the outcome of ongoing discussions between a partnership led by Block Real Estate Services LLC that is attempting to develop the $78 million project and representatives of the taxing jurisdictions being asked to forgo property tax revenue from the development."
Developing . . .
The level of property tax abatement for a new building on the Plaza should not exceed the level of blight on the Plaza.
ReplyDeleteEither the building would be built without tax incentives or the building is not economically feasible. If this building is not economically feasible then there is probably not a building in KCMO that could be built without a tax break. If that be the case then stop building and let demand catch up with the supply.
ReplyDeleteI want to build a new home but it's not feasible without tax incentives. I figure $8K per year for the next 20 years. Saving me $160,000 on a $750K home. Now I can work with that. How do I need to talk to?
ReplyDelete3:39 If you give a couple of councilpersons 50%% of the savings you could probably get it. Of course their would be some legal fees to the favored law firms.
ReplyDeleteMayor James has effectively gutted this once-functional board, into a line of ass-kissers who jump at his command. Too bad, the PIEA used to be an economic engine for KC instead of a group of idiots.
ReplyDeleteIt is also where the current issues with Eagle Point buildings found a home. I think I'll start sitting in on the meetings just for fun.
ReplyDeleteI thought the streetcar was suppose to bring economic development downtown.
ReplyDeleteWhat an ugly piece of shit that building is. There is NO blight on the PLAZA. Just more of Sly giving them a hand (job).
ReplyDelete3:22 -- Exactly!!
ReplyDeleteThat is hideous architecture.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I moved out of that shithole.
