More than anything, the memory of Ann Harrison's horrific murder still haunts Kansas City and remains a key talking point for those who support the death penalty and don't give much credence to those who argue for mercy and against the cruel and unusual punishment of executions.

ReplyDeleteClearly, 1:15 PM has his facts all wrong. Jim Crow was a system of governance supported by separate but equal treatment of Southern Blacks. Jim Crow also reinforced unfair practices like saying somebody was guilty of a crime but really had nothing to do with it; and causing that Black fellow/woman to be tried for transgressions the White man committed.
ReplyDeleteMr. Taylor's admitted guilt concerning this devastating murder has nothing to do with Jim Crow. Not even close. How is this an oppressive situation for Mr. Taylor when he admitted to committing this crime. Not only did he admit to it but it was done to satisfy sexual desires and to hide a deviant sexual desire for an under-aged white female. He was accompanied by another Black fellow who acted and participated in these unlawful acts. This is not a race issue. This is not a Jim Crow issue. The State of Missouri has, out of the four recently executed, killed two white men in the same manner. Nobody yelled "Jim Crow" when those two people were executed or stated that the motivation behind the killings was racism.
This is an issue of guilt vs innocence and under the present set of circumstance, both of the men responsible admitted to the crime. The law of the land requires that these men be put to death regardless of race.

There are other posts here suggesting blacks and other minorities are the only ones who commit violent acts of crime. White men rape and kill women too. The fact is a young woman was talked and killed ands the men that did were sentenced to death. No one should find joy in the death of the man any more than anyone should find joy in the rape and death of the young woman. The death penalty is meant to be a deterrent but lawyers want to use stupid defenses like cruel punishment even though the was more violent and cruel than the punishment.
