Daryl Wright: New Kid on the Block
Every year a new comedy star comes to the forefront, and if we’re lucky, sometimes more than one. This season, the young comic everybody is talking about is Daryl Wright, Wright was discovered by comedy film star Jay Mohr. Jay put him on his podcast and radio show every week because this 23 year old has the kind of comedy energy not seen since Eddie Murphy back in the day. Daryl made fun of everything in sight, including NASCAR and himself. The young black star did so well, he became Jay’s co-star. In just the last year Daryl has made his way to the Jim Rome Show, Comedy Central, The Jon Lovitz Showtime Comedy Special. Now he is so popular, he has been given the all day assignment to cover NASCAR at Kansas Speedway for both NBC and ESPN. Much of this happened because the drivers, including Danica Patrick are crazy about him. Danica even turned up to see him perform recently when he was covering the races and performing comedy in Charlottesville, North Carolina.
While much of what Daryl says are mild putdowns to NASCAR, the drivers enjoy the ribbing. In fact, before the big race this Sunday, drivers will have their cars and themselves right in front of Stanfords at the Legends to meet and greet NASCAR fans. Daryl Wright will be the headliner Thursday through Saturday night at Stanfords. Daryl will also do comedy color for the Networks at the racetrack Saturday and Sunday before his shows at the club.
Comedy Central named Daryl as one of the top 5 new comics of the year. Daryl’s CD was produced and distributed by Eardrum Records; a company that has produced only one other comic’s CD’s and that comic is George Carlin. That’s pretty good company to be in. Daryl has been invited to do a boatload of radio interviews including 610 Sports Friday morning. Here’s your chance to see an upcoming comedy star before he blows up here at Stanford and Sons. You are a little full of yourself- but confidence is kind of a necessity in your line of work. But I visited your club last Saturday and you were handing out tickets to next week’s show. The group that I was with didn’t really understand what you were doing so we stopped you to ask you what you were giving out and if we could have some. You gave my wife a dirty look and totally blew us off.
I don’t have anything against you but it was a dick move and uncalled for and I won’t be going back to patronize your business ever again.
