As always, Dead Tree Media want's to put bad news nicely . . .
"Denton Yockey, president and executive producer at Starlight Theatre since 2008, will leave after his contract expires in September following the final show of the season. Yockey's departure is part of a major restructuring announced Tuesday by the Starlight board."
However . . .
TKC READERS KNOW THAT THIS MOVE FOLLOWS A SHOOTING SCARE THAT TERRIFIED PATRONS WITH THE SOUND OF SWOPE PARK GUNFIRE!!!
And while Starlight has made progress . . . Like ridding the outdoor theater of a nest of bats . . . There's still a lot of work to be done amid Kansas City's theater of death and violence that tragically spikes during the Summer season.
Just start having the shows in January. Layer really well, get some oil drums with fires going in them, have some Ice Fishing before the shows, just adapt and quit bitching.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT blame this on anyone but white people.
Your welcome.
KIRBY!!!! LITTLEJOHN!!! TAKE THE POINT!!!
ReplyDeleteMY FAIR LADY STARTS TONIGHT!!!
Yeah, January is good, the next big show will rake in a ton of cash. The "Battle Of The Bulge" the Musical.
ReplyDeleteGod I hate the fuckin Kansas City Star.
ReplyDeleteLook at this shit article with the picture.
http://www.kansascity.com/2013/07/31/4379093/man-shot-by-police-had-just-tossed.html
Some poor cop is fucked now.
Jesus that's an ugly baby.
Delete"He had just tossed his gun", so how could anything bad happen?
ReplyDeleteHe was PROFILED!!!!!!!
Combat?
ReplyDeleteUnfuckinbelievable.
ReplyDeleteLets just change the name of the city to Louis Farrakahnville and get Kwame Kilpatrick in here for mayor.
Jesus.
12 O'Clock High was good too.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the pic in that K C Star article. That cop is fucked.
ReplyDeleteFuck the Red Star
I thought the Star was getting rid of its paywall? How do you get around it? Thanks
ReplyDeleteJesus, that's WAS an ugly nigger. But there are still thousands of them around to ruin things, like the Starlight Theater....Just watch it happen.
ReplyDeleteAs I see it going any where in Kansas City east of Wyoming after say 5pm is taking risks one needs not take.
ReplyDeleteJust let the thugs have the streets at night have the good people stay off them then the police will know who to shoot.
Or as smartman would say time to lock n load.
And you know what maybe Yockey is tired of going to work in a war zone and told them to stick it. Not like they would publish any story like that.
ReplyDeleteThere is no reason to walk around with a gun out of a holster. If you do another person has the right to stand your ground
ReplyDeleteHere's a novel idea. Why not just admit geographical defeat and rebuild this venue in Northern Clay or Platte County or Southern Johnson County? As long as it's situated in the heart of a ghetto war zone (that's here to stay), attendance will drop, and instead of taking action right now to prevent this, the place will soon be another Bannister Mall success story. Don't believe the expected whining from the people in charge, as there's plenty of money in the arts community to fund this relocation to some place safer.
ReplyDeleteSomebody could also make a lot of dough re-opening the current location as "Homies Skateboard Paradise" or "Cleavers - The Biggest Car Wash In The U.S.A." or.....if you wanna keep it save from thugs, open "The Largest Country Bar In The World" and (bonus) this location could feature light rail service all the way from KCI, so bull riders, farmers, rednecks, and generally armed citizens would frequent this place, and crime rates would shrink and go away.
Me? I'm looking forward to the renaming and re-shaping of KC to Detriot City, Missouri. I've got ten bucks cash saved up, so I'll be able to buy TEN houses!!
If I had free tickets-front row center-I wouldn't go to a concert there even if the lineup was, God, John Lennon, Jonathan Winters, Abe Lincoln, and Hitler, and I was traveling with a police escort. Police escort can't prevent a bullet dropping out of the sky aimed at the top of your head.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they should install a bullet-proof dome over this theater and call it "The Claustrophobia Center"
I'm sad that former ultra-classy places in Kansas City have become nightmares.
Maybe Starlight Patrons should be issued helmets and bulletproof vests to put on when they arrive for a show?
ReplyDeleteWere just a miniature version of Chicago (Chiraq) now basically. Or damn close to it.
ReplyDeleteBefore a single dime is pumped into Starlight perhaps it could be moved to a different location?????
ReplyDeleteYeah, relocate. Same stars but just a safe sky. If they sit on their thumbs and make no moves but continue to complain about rising crime in that area of town, they should consider renaming it to "Innocent Bystander Theater"
ReplyDeleteA police enforced Swope Park curfew after dark. No gatherings at shelters allowed. Amazing Starlight hasn't insisted on this already.
ReplyDeleteThe hills are alive with the sound of...gun fire! Damn.
ReplyDeleteNo 10:18, it's not "sad", instead, it's niggers, plainly and simply, niggers.
ReplyDelete11:18 never has a point. Just like saying nigger… must be rough being irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteWe just an't have anything nice in Coonville.
ReplyDelete11:42 still irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteAgain....only an idiot would attend Starlight now and an even dummber bastard would take his family.
ReplyDeleteRemember suburbanites...
"Time in da hood brings only no good".
not yockeys fault that starlight is surrounded by shit
ReplyDeleteyes, please, Tony..inform us how "TKC Readers" know Mr. Yockey's departure is tied to the incident near Swope Park?
ReplyDeleteHow about re-naming Swope Park as Spook Park. Maybe Jermaine Reed can offer an amendment to the City Council to celebrate the African nature of the park and Kiki Curls can second that.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until the animals start using all the glass in the Star's building for target practice. Is the Star still going to apolgize for these animals?
Why not move starlight to become the new anchor tenant of the new bannister mall area redevelopment? Its right on 435/71/49. Its perfect for joco, lees summit/blue springs, etc and would spur A LOT of new quality surrounding development. Is, its not surrounded by ghetto people in ghetto houses and liquor stores. Its perfect.
ReplyDelete8:18 you are frickin nuts. Why would you have an open air theater near a major traffic corridor? I suppose you've never been to Starlight.
ReplyDeletePlenty of quiet land north of the river, or in Lees Summit that's easier to get to than Swope Park for THE PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY GO TO THESE SHOWS!
There is no reason in the world to have a cultural theater where people with culture have to dodge bullets from hood rats. None at all. Non sequitur
For well over fifty years now, we've referred to the nigger animals in the area around Starlight Theater as "Swope Park Indians". Oh yes, it meant niggers but also signified the need to be cautious around these beasts. It still stands and is even more pronounced today.
