Kansas City Mayor Sly Breaks Ground On Aldi

East side discount shopping as Kansas City's food desert on the East Side shrinks just a bit . . .

ALDI holds groundbreaking for store in inner city

Not to be too pessimistic here but this is pretty much a countdown to the first robbery at this place as urban core conspiracy theories give way to cruel reality regarding crime stats.

Developing . . .

  1. Every since Troy Nash stole millions from this project there has been a groundbreaking ceremony on this toxic lot. Remember the $250k survey?

  5. In this area, an armed robbery is the Grand Opening tradition.

  6. This place will be out of business in one year. It will be robbed at gunpoint and shoplifted out of business.

  8. Actually, Aldi has at least one armed guard on duty at all times.

  9. Will Aldi have a liquor license?

  10. The cashiers need to be behind bullet proof glass. They need more than one armed guard.

  11. Aldi knows the inner city already.
There is already an Aldi on Troost just south of 63rd Street and one at Truman Road and Cleveland.

People also forget there are functioning grocery stores on Swope Parkway and Cleveland near Swope Parkway health center and a Happy Foods on Jackson between 31st and Linwood.

  12. I bet Happy Foods isn't really happy. Probably more like Scared Shitless Foods.

  13. So what if Aldi provides quality food at prices lower than most other grocery store chains? So what if it shrinks the food desert? Someone is bound to complain. In fact, by the end of the week I expect one of the inner city's 206 community interest groups to start whining that none of the more high-end grocery chains -- Hyvee, Price Chopper, Hen House, etc. -- have stores in the area.

    1. On the money 141. it's an angus beef desert! Poor inner city folk, who can't utilize any of the 5000 buses in the city don't have access to quality kielbasa!

  14. Can anyone tell me of a City, Town, Subdivision, Village, Apartment complex, Country or anywhere that was developed or taken over by blacks or has a majority of blacks in the population, in all the known history of man kind, that everyone wanted to move to, live in, and raise a family? What does any black family do when they get money? Move as fast as they can to a white Country, City, Town, Subdivision, Village, or Apartment Complex. Why? Because Blacks know better than anyone else just what is going to happen once other blacks know they have nice stuff and money. Every place left to blacks degenerates, the only reason our demcraticly run welfare state city are even surviving is because our government steals money through the threat of force calling it taxation and dumps it down the drain with the utopia ideology that one day blacks will actually take care of themselves.

  15. On the money 1:47. Also, I bet they'll have a hard time finding workers who can pass drug screening, show up on time (if at all), and count change. Six months from now they'll be striking for $15.00 an hour an screaming racism.

  18. Aldi's in NOT a grocery store.7/30/13, 6:15 PM

Beware of GMO's. Third District doesn't know much about the source of food and they die needlessly because of it. Mayor helps lead inner city to its death by mutation. Yum!

  19. +1 11:07 AM All this pomp and circumstance on a discount food store (I dare not call it a grocery store) is overkill. It's insane that there is this much celebration over nothing. Meanwhile, the things that actually need to get done in Kansas City isn't. Did anybody's trash get picked up today?
