Here's a quick Kansas City tech guide for those who are interested in power blogging.
Consider this a preview of the $399 class I'm offering to newsies fired from The Star.
These are just some of the tools of the trade and what we use to keep things fresh around here . . . Also a bit of an update so we can keep track.
1. We upgraded to an Eye-fi mobi card!!!
This is a nice bit of kit that takes photos from a decent camera and transfers them to your smartphone camera that's really only good for Instagrams. We cover more than a few live events and this new system should make our pix from the scene even better.
2. Google Reader Is Dead . . . Long Live RSS/Atom Feeds!!!
Social media is cute and it's great for making your friends chuckle . . . But hardcore news junkies use an RSS/ATOM aggregator and haven't visited individual sites in years. Here @ TKC we've moved from Bloglines to Netvibes, Google Reader and now we've developed a penchant for News Blur. All the cool kids are running Feedly and we may give it a try but for the past couple of months we've been getting a kick out of watching this one-man operation put the Internets in perspective - The functionality and powerful interface of Newsblur puts it ahead of the rest for serious feed monitoring. We might come back with a review later but they have a phone app and a very small subscription fee that have really piqued are interest . . . All things considered, this might be the best alternative in a world without Google Reader.
Finally . . .
3. We Experimented With The Google Bunny This Weekend And It Might Have Changed Our Life . . .
Okay . . . They aren't kidding around with the speed element of Google Fiber. Even from a wi-fi signal with a password from a friend of a friend - The Rainbow bunny just makes everything faster and seem almost effortless. Of course, I used it to watch a whole bunch of Amy Schumer video clips online but I'm sure it might have so great practical applications that will really increase Kansas City biz . . . Pr0n?!?!?!
Anyhoo . . . That's just a sample of the outdated tech that keeps this blog space up and running. Feel free to leave any suggestions for apps or cheap/free tech that might make our blogging journey even better.
And really this was just an introductory effort to introduce even newer features that hopefully will be coming soon.
More in a bit . . .
Do what?
